1996 E4OD solenoid block in older E4OD transmission
Will a solenoid block from a 1996 E4OD transmission work on an older E4OD transmission ? the junk yard sold me an older pre 95 E4OD trans and the solenoid block connector is different on the 95 and 96 trucks so now I am wondering if I can just change out blocks .

I have the same situation I got the plug off the older donor truck and spliced it into my wiring harness. The truck backed out of shop and then went a few feet & now won't move. See my post 95 to 93 E40D swap. I think you may need to put the newer block in. Can Anyone help this guy and possibly me to.

I put in a 90 E4OD into my 95 F350, and I used my selonid pack from the 95 trans. The 90's 1 was different, and had different plugs in it. Just swap whatever pack you need into the trans. Its all the same valve body and such. Mine been good for 2 years now. Put a shift kit in while your at it, makes the trans so much better then the slow, sloppy, shiftin trans come alive.
Also had to change the switch and linkage on the trans, was also different.

Hilux, it is my understanding that the reason for the different connectors is so that you can't swap the solenoid packs easy, IIRC in the earlier setups the circuit protections are built into the solenoid pack, and the newer style the protections are in the ECM - if you put in a new-style pack with an old-style ECM you will have no circuit protections and you may fry something. I do believe tho the opening in the trans case is the same, in which case you should be able to just put in your new solenoid pack in the older-style trans, but there may be some check ***** above the separator plate that should not be there for the new-style pack to work... I'm thinking we need to get Mark Kowalsky to shed some light on this sunject.

the e4od has seen many upgrades since its introduction in 1989 right through the 1995 model year. for a good introduction, read this:
