534 engine details

Anyone know where to get decals for the 534 engine? Such as the ones that go on the air cleaner, etc.

I have a 1969 F-950 with this engine, and am in the process of cleaning and detailing the engine compartment.

TIA

Numberdummy sometimes finds obsolete parts in the dark corners of various dealerships. You might PM him.

Ed, the OP sent me a Visitors Message. Didn't say what year or series his truck is...so I read thru his posts and found this one.

I doubt anyone would have reproduced a 534 air cleaner decal, as the demand is slim and none.

If the other engine and air cleaner decals are the same as passenger cars used, dearbornclassics.com has repopped them, has pics of them all, and pages of them listed.

Dearborn Classics is located in Bend, Oregon. Call 800-252-7427, and request a free catalog by snail mail.

None of these car/truck decals were available from Ford AFAIK, as there are no part numbers for any of them.

The 534 has a 4.50 bore and a 4.20 stroke. It looks a little bit like a 430 or 462 Lincoln (has a similar angled block deck), but shares NOTHING with any other Ford V-8 family, period. No parts interchange, and the bell housing bolt pattern is completely different. The 534 was known as the Super Duty, and it also came in a 401 and 477 cubic inch displacements. There was also a '475', but it was a derated 477 cubic inch version for the F-800.

534 bore & stroke

Thank you for the info. I was wondering if an SD engine could be used in
a street rod for the "what is it" questions. Also what or if any of the other angle block parts could be adapted or used.

391 SD

I seem to remember some 391 super duty engines. they were 390's with large crankshaft noses for truck accessories like air compressor. Many of the car parts would interchange.

Only if you want the second question to be "Why is it so slow".

They weigh too much and don't make much power for the size and fuel consumption. A decent small block, any brand, would easily outrun such a beast.

As for the 391, that is an FT series engine, related to the FE motors. NOTHING to do with the SD series.

Yes, the 391 was an 'FT' engine, a heavy duty 390. There was also an FT 361. These engines were called XD's.
