Exclamation 1963 Ford C700. What size engine?

I know it is in the Y-Block family because of the two bolts on the end of the valve covers. But I'm not sure what size it is for sure. The VIN # is C70NU342242. I need to know what size it is asap. I'm tearing down the engine and replacing the head gaskets. The owner of the truck thought it was a 330 V8 but I didn't think the 330 V8 was used until 1964. Let me know asap please! Thanks!

TECHNICAL
A Y block should have a distributor in the back and an air gap manifold
I would suggest you measure the bore and stroke after you pull the heads off and that'll tell you exactly the cu in.

Are you sure a 330 isn't an FE, such as the 361/391 industrial engines?

Well I assumed it is in the Y Block family because of the two bolts at the end of the valve covers, I thought that was specific to that type engine?

Welcome to FTE

C70 = C700 Tilt Cab

N = 302 / This engine (and the larger 332) were derived from the 1955 Lincoln Y block.

This is not the same engine family as 239/256/272/292/312 Y blocks. The engine parts do not interchange!

U = Louisville KY Assembly Plant

342242 = 1963, assembled in October 1962.

The last year for these Lincoln based Y blocks was 1963. FT engines (330 2V M/D; 330 2V H/D; 361 2V & 391 4V) were introduced in 1964.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since the last year for these engines was 1963, you may have trouble finding head gaskets.

C3TZ6051C .. Head Gasket / Obsolete / Fits 1957/63 302/332.

LUM'S FORD in Albemarle NC has TWO = 800-951-1122.

---------------------------------------------------------
C3TZ6079C .. Valve Grind Gasket Set / Obsolete

Includes: head gaskets, valve seals, valve cover gaskets, intake & exhaust manifold gaskets, valley pan gasket, t/stat gasket.

Fits: 1963 302/332. 1957/62's use different valve cover gaskets.

BOWMAN FORD SALES has ONE.

KLIMESH MOTOR SALES in Calmar IA has TWO = 563-562-3241.

AITKEN MOTOR CO. in Aitken MN has ONE = 218-927-2169.

MILLER OBSOLETE PARTS in Binghamton NY has ONE = 800-546-7278.

ANTIQUE AUTO SUPPLY in Arlington TX has ONE = 817-275-2381.

Yeah I finally found out today also that it was a 302. Took it to the machine shop and we matched the gaskets up. And you are DEFINITELY right about having trouble finding the head gaskets. None of the parts stores neither have them or can even get them!

I found the head gaskets and the valve grind gasket set. See my post above.

The Ford part numbers are typed in blue.

Yeah I ordered them from Green. It was $39 plus shipping for the valve grinding set and for 2 oil tubes that lube the rocker shafts. I was AMAZED at how cheap it was. I was expecting close to $100 for everything since its a rare year/engine combo. Thanks again everyone! Now the next thing I should ask, is what is the head bolt tightening sequence and any other specs I need for reassembly?

This thread you dug up is 18 months old. The engine in the OP's 1963 C700 is a Lincoln based Y block 302, not a 361 or 391 FT engine.

FT engines were not available until 1964. The Lincoln based 302/332 Y blocks were canceled after the 1963 model run ended.

The Y block 302 is an entirely different engine than the "small block" 302, which was introduced in 1968.

Please start a new thread for your hydraulic clutch question, and be specific as to the year, series, what parts you need for it.
