Hey, I've been cleaning my black rubber floor in my 99 F150. Using simple green and a good stiff brush. It looks awesome wet and shiny, but when it dries it is back to the dull factory mat. Just wondering if anybody had any experience using any sort of tire shine product to keep this looking "wet" I'd assume I'd need something that doesn't collect dust as much, and doesn't bleach(since my floor mat is hopefully more long term than a set of tires)

If anybody has any experience it would be greatly appreciated. If not I guess I'll take one for the team.

 

Well yesterday I went out and bought myself some cheap Simoniz stuff in a squirt bottle, ran right out and sprayed my center hump in the Canadian Tire parking lot.

I wouldn't recommend doing that, the fumes are too strong and even with the windows open caused a terrible headache.

BUT it looks Great!! better than new!, I've only done the center hump so far just to give people some contrast when I show them. It seems to be a little greasy but it did go on way too thick. So far nobody has put there feet on it yet so I don't know how it's going to attract dirt yet.

Maybe it will turn out to be a huge mistake but for now it looks awesome.

 

I use a product called "prime shine"- it is available from acompany called "Prowax" (they have a web site- it is available in either a solvent or laytex base. It has excellent shine and durability, dries non-greasy to the touch. I have use this for 15 years any never had any issues- just excellent results.

 

Sounds worth a try. I just grabbed the only product in the store that wasn't a foam to test this with. A laytex based product would be better for floor mat use wouldn't it? if I'm not too discouraged by the time this gets dirty again. I wonder if prime shine is available in Nova Scotia.

 

Meguiars HyperDressing. It's water based, has a very good scent, non-greasy and can be diluted to get the shine to your liking.

 

Had three people(including me) in the truck today, tracked in a little gravel and dirt in rubber boots, wiped right off with my hand and still looks good. I'm happy with the results so far.

 

I've always used Pledge furniture polish for rubber floors. Works great, nice lemmony smell.

 

Holy months later, finally decided to clean up the truck a little bit after the winter, wiped the floor with a damp rag (Just water) and it came clean, No shine at all anymore, but the textured floor is dirt free with no scrubbing.

Just thought I'd share... This is something I wouldn't hesitate to do again in the future.

 

I personally would stay away from tire dressing and the like, I would think that would be very slippery, not good on a floor! Just my 2c

I have big rubber floor mats on top of my rubber mat and only put the tire dressing on the center hump, the sides get a little shine from the overspray but aren't taking a direct hit.

the center hump does seem a little slimey. I don't know if it would fall into the slippery catagory but I'm sure it easily could with the right footwear.

But you're right it's kinda like suggesting somebody Armor All a motorcycle seat "because it looks good"

 

Yea, I had a buddy put Armourall on his snowmobile seat, the whole first weekend we went riding he couldn't stay on the machine!!! That was a fun weekend

 

Use a product call 'no touch tire care' made by Permatex, inc. and find it works well. Comes in clear spray, or foam. Occasionally do a quick detail by liberally spraying entire engine compartment then wipe off, find it rejuvenates hoses, belts, etc., and no big thing if miss any. Have not tried the Mequiars Hyper dressing, have used there leather polish and found it works well; however, as already mentioned, find it difficult keeping backside from sliding to the other side of the truck during sharp turns.

 

I too use the armor all tire shine for my mats. Its slippery and slick, but that goes for the dirt too. It keeps a brilliant shine for close to a month with pretty harsh treatment by my filthy cowboy boots.

 

The key is moderation, I cleaned my truck a week and a half ago so it would look good for my honeymoon. I couldn't get as much shine as I wanted so I just kept spraying.

HUGE... HUGE... MISTAKE.

One spray would have been fine and looked good, however approx 20 sprays was scary and extremely dangerous.

I had to wash the floor four more times with Simple Green and a brush before I could even move it around the yard.

Just a heads up.

p.s. I'm still going to do the center hump and around the edges where I don't put my feet!!
