Wheel lug nut cover loss prevention

Recently while driving one of Montana's many rough roads I lost one of my wheel lug nut covers some place. Having scoured all the local auto recycling yards for a good part of a day yesterday looking for a replacement, I finally managed to find one ($5). Talking to one of the folks at one of the yards, he made it sound like it's not uncommon to loose these, saying he gets a few people looking for replacements for their Fords on occasion. Once I got home, I tried to think of an idea to make these more secure so I wouldn't lose one again. What I came up with is really cheap, easy, and works real well. What I did was to get some heavy O-rings to put around the end of the metal bracket that secures them to the lug nuts. There's 3 needed for each cover so a total of 12 are required. It sure seems to hold them on much tighter. I've included a few photos to show you what I mean.

This first photo is the style of lug not covers on my 99 expy.

This photo shows one of the brackets that secure the cover to the lug nots.

Here's a photo if one of the O-rings I used.

And finally the O-ring installed.

I solved my problem with 26's. A bit more costly than your plan, but I haven't lost any lugnut covers!

FYI, the size O-rings that I used are 1/8" thick, 3/4" I.D., 1" O.D.
