Hi all ,

Just found this site, as a result of getting a truck. My dad is moving out of state, and with that, I inherited his project truck. The truck is a 1962 F100 Unibody with a 302 V8 in it, and a C4 transmission. The truck is in fairly good condition, it runs good.. has slight rear end damage due to a drunk guy hitting a light pole by his house which in turn fell into the back of the truck . Primered up as of now.

I would really like to get in to this thing, and make it a cool show/cruiser truck. I'm a little bit mechanical, but not nearly enough to get this thing done on my own.. so I guess my first question would be if anyone knows of a trustworthy person in the LA/OC area that knows their stuff about these trucks? I will need to be getting a new rear end on it, it is not set up for any highway driving right now, and I would like to be able to cruise it without getting 5mpg!

I'm sure I'll be on once in a while to bother people with stupid questions.. but how else can you learn, right?

The Number Dummy would be your best source for information about the truck. Post the vin information off of the tag mounted on the glove box door inside.

Welcome, I live about an hour north of Frisco on the 101 corridor so I probably won't be of much help, but I do have the same truck. Mine is a 262 I-6, 4sp. That truck of yours has incredible potential. Good luck.

 

Welcome aboard; looking forward too hearing and seeing your truck progress. Unfortuantly I'm about several K's miles away. But there's numerous folks in your area that are memebers and I bet; you'll fine the right ones.
In my opinion; your CA's boys & girls got it made; and more of them.
So again welcome, 62 uni is my favorite. Don't own one right now, got a 64 & 65 F100 swb, and acouple dentside models.

I'm not sure on the seat that is in my truck, and if it's original (bench seat). I'm a pretty tall/big guy (6'4), and the fit behind the wheel is pretty tight due to the height of the wheel, and the seat. Are there options of putting a seat in that gives more space in the truck for me to fit a little bit more comfortably?

I took the gas tank out from behind the seat and found a 20 gallon fuel cell and mounted it in the bed and pushed the seat all the way to the back of the cab. That coupled with a smaller metal flake steering wheel from mooneyes did the trick and gave me a good 6 inches of extra clearance

 

Join the club...I'm 6-5 345. Fitting in the cabs of these trucks can be a real pain in the backside, and...the stomach.

You might consider installing 1965/68 Mustang bucket seats, as they will sit lower to the floor, and the backrests are thinner.

These seats were part of the Ranger package available on 1965/66 F100/250's & 1967/72 F100/350's.

btw: When I bought my '65 new, I was 20 years old, 200 lbs. Today things are different, especially since "Arthur" has arrived.
