Walmart battery

After reading many posts about crappy Walmart batteries and how we should pay the big bucks for Interstates etc, here's some evidence for ya....I've had my cheapo $35 Walmart battery since '03 and it's still treating me good.

it happens

kinda like one truck will run trouble free for 400,000 miles and the next one off the assembly line only makes it to 150,000 before falling apart.

Yeah, I've had some cheepo's that seemed to last forever and some expensive long life batteries that seemed to croak after a year or two. I don't think name brand has much to do with it though. There are only one or two battey manufacturers in the country and they make them for everybody. I don't know if batteries are imported.

The trick with the Interstate ones is to buy the "seconds". They are about $25 - $35 and are either cosmetically defected or have sat on the shelf too long and are not considered "new". I have 3 of them in my cars and trucks and they have treated me better than my Exide Orbit did, or my Optima.

I like Motorcraft Batteries myself. For about $85 you can get a 100 Month Motorcraft battery.

Yes some batteries are imported. Mexico etc...

Good to hear it's working for you. I've had decent results with Everlast (Walmart) and Duralast (Autozone) batteries. My first choice is Optima though, since I've had a RedTop for a little over four years, and despite the fact that it's been through all sorts of charging system malfunctions, it's still held up and it still works like new to this day. Even sat a month, still hooked up and untouched, while I fixed the power steering on my truck. When I did start it after all that, it turned the starter like I had just parked the truck the day before.

And I actually got it pretty cheap too. I traded in a slightly used Duralast from an '85 Cadillac we used to have that we got rid of (it was unreliable) and after all was said and done, I only paid $70 for the Optima.

I had a friend working in the auto department of walmart, he said they usually got about 10 returned batteries a day. I wont use them simply because I cant stand going to the circus known as walmart. If my wifes wants to go, I wait in the truck. I have had good luck with batteries from Les Scwab, had one in my stang for the last 5 years, sits all winter and still fires up in the spring. Marathon and orbital have also done fine by me so far. I cant remember what I brand I had in my 95 F-150 but I had to replace it every year as it would suddenly lose all reserve capacity. Using the radio would kill it in no time.

I have one, too; it's about 3 years old now, is always parked outside and has
endured 3 Colorado winters (going on 4).

I spent 90 on an Interstate battery about 4 years ago and it has always started my truck with no problem. Even in the dead of winter when the windchill is -15 in Minnesota. Plus I run two amps, aftermarket stereo, and cb as well as a brake booster. Cant beat that deal in my book.
