5.0/5.8 performance upgrades

Hey everybody i'm sure I can speak for a lot of of ford fans when I say I am looking for more power out of my truck so I was just curious if anyone has installed any major aftermarket parts on their efi ford trucks ie aluminum heads, roller rockers and an intake,in primarily stock form like pistons and camshaft.I am considering putting on edelbrock heads part #350-60289,1.7 roller rockers and the edelbrock truck intake. My motor is stock and runs good so i would like to keep it that way,I just want more power and this to me seems like the cheapest way,it seems like this combo would be cheaper than spending the 4000 grand or so to put on a supercharger which is gonna give me like 70 horse and then i gotta get bigger injectors, mess with the timing etc.So I guess what I am wanting to know is how easy would it be to put the heads, rockers and intake on and will I run into any serious problems like having to get longer pushrods or anything else,or would it just be easier to put on a supercharger?Like I said I would like to keep my engine stock except for the mods so no flat top or domed pistons just the stockers with whatever compression I gain from the heads. Also does anyone have a supercharger on their trucks if so was it worth it?Sorry for being so long, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can't comment on the heads as I haven't done it. But I will mention that the first thing you might want to do is open up the exhaust and Intake sides of things if not already. Then you might want to just try a CAM swap. Bang for the buck I think that is the best way to go with the least amount of work and if you decide to do more you will need the exhaust opened anyway.

The other two options of doing the heads and or supercharger you might want to rebuild the motor first unless you have super low miles. With the heads you might as well since you are 80% of the way there anyway and I wouldn't supercharge a stock motor with allot of miles.

What motor do you have and what year is the truck?

The Edelbrock stuff is equally overpriced for what it delivers on a stock bottom end, the very first things that should be upgraded on these trucks are the exhaust and cam.. especially if you have a 5.8. For the most part changing the intake is a waste of $$ though heads are a good idea with the 5.8 as well. BUT.. the sum of all the changes has to stay within the limits of the stock EFI system(~300hp) and that is actually pretty easy to reach. That is unless you have a mass air truck which will tolerate more or you have emissions tests to worry about, then you may have to scale back your goals somewhat.

the truck is a 97 with a 5.8 and it is speed density. So I would presume I can't put in to radical of a cam. This next question is for conaski as I take you for someone who knows their fords. What is a good set of heads that is cheap, not necessarily aluminum that flow good make power and are set up for pedestal mount rockers? Also how radical can I go on a cam without having to change to mass air because i really don't wanna do that, and emissions are not a problem.?I don't need a lopey idle just looking to get about 50 to 75 more horsepower?

You don't even need heads for that, just replace the whole exhaust with headers and whatever you like behind it and find a used HO roller cam and add 1.7 rockers or get the Comp 35-349-8 and use the stock rockers.
