400+ is pretty good.

250k is probably "average". I think other things kill off a lot of older vehicles before the engine gives out.

200,000 is the new 100,000.

Agree with the first response. A little TLC will go a long way with these motors and if you bought it from someone who put that in then it's a good chance that you've got yourself a well maintained motor on it's way to another 445K (little exaggeration)

Mine lasted 115k before one of Fords TSB's took it out. Stupid TSB. Of course, I have the 4.6L. My head gasket blew out where they didn't mill the head properly. Put in a rebuilt motor with a 3yr. 100k mile warranty, have had no problems since.

There are a whole bunch of variables plus a little bit of luck involved in engine life.

If oilt is changed hot and changed often, coolant is changed every few years and things are inspected on a regular basis, the engine isn't operated in an abusive manner and you get lucky, then the sky is the liimit.

With todays engine machining and material improvement methods, todays lubricants added to the fact that all engines have fuel injection these days, a half million miles is well within reach for a properly cared for modern engine.
