1976 F-150 steering column problem...

The shifter on my truck broke the other day. It's an automatic and I am at a loss on how to fix it. The part that the shift lever is on was broken, I ordered a new one from LMC truck and partially installed it and turned the shift shaft but it's not shifting the tranny. Any suggestions or where to get a used steering column?

Did you get the correct A/T shift collar?

D5TZ7228A .. A/T Shift Collar / Available from Ford / D5TZ7228A replaced C9TZ7228A & C5TZ7228B.

MSRP: $62.98 // FTE sponsor Y2KFORDPARTS.COM price: $45.35.

Fits: 1965/66 F100/250 / 1967/77 F100/350. 1978/79 is not the same.

Buying a used column: It may not be any better than what you have now, it could be worse.

I found out when the collar broke it put all the pressure on the tabs on the shift tube and ripped one off. So I got a new shift tube in route, hopefully this will bring the beast back! Thanks for the help!

LMCTruck.com....

LMC Truck Parts - Pages 100 and 101
LMC Truck Parts - Pages 102 and 103

Are the pages in their catalog that have the tube on it.

Good luck!

I am having the same issue with a 1976 F150. I have the new shift collar and I know that the shift tube key is broken on the upper end. I can't find any info on the removal and reinstall of a shift tube. If you could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Assuming your truck is 2WD .. the shift tube is shown as basic part number 7212 = A/T is different than M/T
