Is regearing possible?

I was wondering if regearing my Expedition is possible. The door sticker says axle code 16.
I was thinking of 3.73 or 4.10.
Can a limited slip be installed if one isn't there already?

deepest you could possibly have is a 3.73...that or a 3.55 gearset. and nobody has a factory LS...shame.

in the aftermarket you can find the 9.75 IRS axle has a 3.55, 3.73, 4.10, 4.56, 5.xx gearseat available. You can pick anyone you would like, but you'll need a programmer to correct the odometer reading.

We can't seem to get a straight answer on the LS. There has been some concern that a LS would cause problems with the RSC and T/C that all 07+ Expy's are cursed with. I'd love a LS later on down the road, but I'm too scared to mess with that damn RSC crap

This brings up a question I have had about correcting the speedo. I did the procedure for correcting for larger tires on my 93 bronco by accessing the PSOM and entering the REVS per MILE compensation. Has it been determined if any such procedure is available on the Expys?

Sorry for the double---
I just recalled that for a gear change on the 93 PSOM it was not necessary to compensate because of where the pickup was for the speedometer. The pickup is in the "chunk" where it reads from the disc (cant remember what it is called now) that is behind the ring gear.

you have to either buy a SCT programmer, or get your Ford dealership to change the PCM

most Dealerships have been total jerks about the PCM programming lately. Ford must be telling them not to. Used to not be an issue, but I seen quite a few posts in the past year about them not doing it.

If you go the SCT route, talk to 5 Star Tuning or VMP and get some custom tunes as well. I'd love to at this time, but it's the Family Car and I need that Warranty for the next 5 yrs to be maintained. Gotta be a good boy until 2014 when I can buy my F-250 Harley D.

My understanding is that the livery package Expys have an limited slip and the 3.73s at least thats what DeBryan says.

When I saw the thread title, I was thinking you were looking at lockers or going to bigger tires. Shew...good thing you aren't. The expy has about as much offroad ability as my neighbor's Honda Civic. With the independent suspension setup, it has the same flex as the civic, which is to say notta. I made a u-turn the other day across a small ditch, had it on two wheels. The suspension travel can't be more than 8 or 9" in this thing. I love my expy, and its a keeper, but it was built to haul people and haul toys, not play in the mud. Not sure what you need LSD for, the traction control is pretty good.
Playing in the mud and on the rocks is why I have my Isuzu, 26" wheel travel...stock. Isuzu makes some of the finest off road vehicles you can buy, like a Japanese version of the real Land Rovers. That is why it rides behind my expy on long trips

the EL supposedly comes with the 3.73 open diff standard...and you cannot buy any version with a LS

3.55 and 3.73 are the factory options. I cannot find a Ford source to verify which gearset I have though. it's strange, but the 07+ Expy is a freaking mystery when you are trying to get info
