I'm swapping out a '98 Expy rear end... How do I manually release the pressure from the air springs?

I just popped my connector off the top of the bag and it released the pressure.

 

Do the lines connect the same as on the front shocks?

 

Mike, yes they are the same setup. Just push in on the outer ring and pull the air line out. I used a jack under the hitch so when it dropped, it wouldn't go down. Just the air in the bags will depressurize. Don't forget to turn off your susp. control located above the kick panel on the pass side.

 

Cool. Thanks! The truck is on jack stands on the frame in front of the trailing arm mounts, and I turned off the switch before I started... but when I dropped the axle down there was still enough pressure in the bags they actually popped inside out at the bottom. I don't think it hurt anything, but hopefully once I get the pressure out I can push the bottom back up inside where it belongs. Thanks again for the tips.

 

No problem. Before you turn the switch back on, I would set everything down and that should help settle the bags back into place. Good luck!

 

Ugghhhh!!! I disconnected the air line, but there is still the solenoid/ air valve that the air line goes into... It's not releasing the air in the bag, even after I disconnected the wires.

 

Mike, sorry about that. After reading what you experienced I went out and crawled under mine to try to remember what I did. After disconnecting the air line and electrical connector, I removed the retaining clip and then turned the air spring solenoid (slowly) to relieve the pressure (just be very careful doing this). This is how I did it, not how the manual said to. I did mine during the winter time so I wasn't wasting time.

 

Cool. That's how I (eventually) did it too. I compressed the bags all the way up then put the springs back on- amazing how short they get. After the axle assembly was back in I turned on the key and suspension switch, and "tricked" the rear sensor so the pump would inflate the bags slightly, just enough to be able to put them in place on their "nubs" on the axle. Amazing how light those things are, and how they're just held on with a speed clip.

 

Good deal, I'm glad you got it to work. I replaced the bags on mine and they were longer than stock. But you are right, they are light and surprised as how they are locked in.

 

How I release the a/c pressure on my expedition ? I found both valves but I'm not able to release the pressure I'm trying to replace the gas but it has to much pressure how else can I manually do it? Need help

 

Since this is a completely different topic than the thread you have linked to you probably won't see much response. You should always start your own thread when you have a new issue.


That said, why do you want to replace the gas in your A/C system? It does not wear out. If you are having problems with your A/C system you should start a thread and put in some information on what is happening.
