5.8 HO - whats the difference?

the only 5.8 HO that i have known of was in 86 (daddy had one in a 350, said high output on an oversized air cleaner), came with holley 4bbl and some slightly different heads, not sure about cam though.
other than that, just lightning engines. somebody probably just added HO to it to try to get it sold.

Ford did many crazy things in the 80's 302's with 351 cams and fireing orders. Rollar cams mid year. Hot igniton curves.
My opinion to get accurate info on that specific engine. Get a Vehicle OASIS. on that report, it will give you the engine serial number and basics... Run that number at a Ford dealer. The run a reguler 351.
I bet it has a Motor sport igniton. So many crazy things... Then again if your not the original owner. Somebody may have put that aircleaner on it.
I thought though, the 2bbl carb throat was the same size as the 4 bbl holey, but the 2 bbl air cleaner had two triangle things that fit around the choke or air intake bell on the 2 bbl carb, those two things would have to get broken off or bent up to sit properly. They should be at the 4 and 8 oclock positions.

Actually there is a for 5.8 Liter High Output Motor (HO)
There is actually a ford 5.8 liter High Output Motor also known as the HO. Alot of people say no there is not and blah blah blah but I know now for a fact there is. I recently bought a 1984 Ford F150 and its beautiful. I didnt know much about the engine besides it was a 5.8 liter 351. Then I took it to a car garage and found out my motor is a step up from windsor. Its a 5.8 liter High Output motor, Idk if thats still a 351 or not. But the guy said its a step up from windsor and I did research and it is. They made these motors from 84 to 86. Thats it. They are hard to find in good shape and I just so happened to stumble on one. Well anyways they have different cams, heads, a 4bbl carb, came standard with dual exhuast, so on so forth. So its a jump from like 160 hp and 200 ft tq to like 210 hp and 300 ft tq. A big jump. All I know is my motor is strong and really goes. I have a 4bbl Holley carb, new dual exhaust, 4 inch lift, new air filter assembly, and Im ready to go. Have fun!

For the second time in the same thread....
The 351HO was built in the mid '80's and the package consisted of a 4bbl carb and intake and a marine grind RV cam... that's it. It used the same heads as all other production engines and vehicles were equipped with a single exhaust system from the factory. If you have a vehicle with any other differences it was added by a previous owner.

I dont get you said " for the second time in the same thread ". You first put there is no such thing only in the lightnings? Then you said they made them in the mid 80's but they are the same as any other 351. Im just saying that noooo there not the same. You even just said it yourself. They jump from 160 hp in the regular 351 to 210 in the 5.8 HO. Lol big difference. Atlest I think so. My father had a regular 351 In a 86 and all I know is my 351 thats a HO is alot stronger and faster. I know its hard to find these type of things out because ford made so many different 351 and v8's but its true.

OK maybe this will make it clearer. The OP suggested that he was looking at a 351HO out of an '89, but that isn't possible because by 1989 all these trucks were EFI and there is no fuel injected 351HO. So either somebody is mistaken about the year or the current owner of the truck in question is blowin smoke up our guys back side.

I think twadleduck is a lil upset because he said he just got a job. Haha. Ok now name calling is lame. You guys upset me. It goes to show that some people just need to be right about everything and as soon as someone says something else about a truck they freak the flock and start getting on everyones cases. Now you are right that by 89 they where efi and there are no HO efi's. But when did I ever say anything about who my post was to or if my post was against anyone. This is not a sight for me. You fella's ruined it. Hahaha.
