Thanks John. Mine is a Canadian truck the frame had some good rust on it. It has been sand blasted and painted and in the area where it is supposed to be by the cross member is pitted pretty bad, so I want to check under the cab next. If not there then I will have to restamp it.
Thanks

Canadian trucks are on the LEFT side frame rail...and the Warranty Plate is on the left side of the door jamb between the 2 pockets the door hinges fit in. The plate is huge in comparison to the US plates...same height as the 65 and earlier plates, but twice as long.
Post the info off of it and I can decode it for you assuming its a 65 or later truck.

Red face VIN location search in Europe

Hello to all of you Ford F trucks enthusiasts. I just bought a 1966 Ford F 250 Camper Special in California.Beautiful condition without being perfect. I had it shipped to Europe and it is now stuck in Customs who will not release it until I can find the corrrect VIN number. The title VIN does not match with the door tag VIN. Title is for a F 250 (F25YR887216) and door tag shows an F 100 (presumably the same year F10AR816459). Everything on the truck looks F 250. The seller (a baptist pastor from CA) is embarrassed but is adamantly claiming it is an F 250, which I really think it is. All the bills, invoices and registration certificates received with the truck s exhaustive paperwork dating back to the late 80ies consistently feature the F 250 VIN. www VIN checks also have not revealed any salvage title fraud, which is what customs are suspecting now. We searched and searched and I could not find the VIN on the frame. Of course, reading your descriptions, I now realize we searched in the wrong locations. I have found your descriptions and explanations extremely helpful and I will take this info back to the Customs warehouse on Monday. I will go straight to the frame rail as you all described. I hope it can then all be cleared quickly. The truck was manufactured in late July in San Jose, CA. Is there a specific VIN location for the 1966 F trucks built in San Jose ? Interestingly, the CA registration was renewed in late 2011 by the CA DMV. Does the DMV not verifiy original VIN on frame ?

lupahe1966 Welcome to FTE and the Slicks Forum. Next time why don't you start a new thread rather than tagging a 4 year old one.

Don't know how to get you out of this jamb, the passenger side frame rail holds the go to vin for the vehicle in this country. As I posted earlier it is located on top and just ahead of where the axle crosses under then repeted a little further down under the cab.

There was a matching number tag placed on the door and is evident in this case that the truck has been in some kind of accident and the door was replaced and like most cases the tag was not swapped.

A huge giveaway is the wheels, a F100 has 5 lugs and the F250 has 8. The trucks are basically the same bumper to bumper. The 250 is a more heavy duty built truck with the differences below the chassis. Above the chassis the body parts are interchangeable.

Camper Special is a trim package and available on both the 100 & 250.

Welcome to FTE

F25 = F250 2WD / Y = 352 / R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant / 887216 = 1966, assembled July 1966.

1963/66: Warranty Plate located on the left door face below the latch, doors basically the same 1961/66 F100/1100.

People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plate on the replaced door.

But DMV/Law Enforcement do not go by VIN's on Warranty Plates, because they are too EZ to change.

They go by hidden frame VIN (could be 1 or 2) located on the top of the right (passenger) side frame rail, either under the cab, partially under the cab, or forward of the cab.

You'll need to clean the top of the frame rail thoroughly in these locations, because by now, hidden VIN(s) will be covered up with rust/road grime.

I bought a 1965 F100 352 8' Styleside pickup brand new at Stockton Quincy Ford in West Los Angeles (Westwood). It was assembled January 1965 in San Jose CA

When I went to pull the engine in 1981, found the VIN stamped on the center of the engine crossmember, directly below the harmonic balancer.

I do not know if your San Jose CA assembled 1966 F250 will have a hidden VIN located there...or not. Sold my truck 11/2009, it went "across the pond" to Sweden.

Red face F 250 In Luxembourg

Thanks to John and Bill. Apologies for having used this old thread ! I see Bill lives in California. I have relatives in Palm Springs and LA. The car I bought belonged to Ron Kemp out of Placerville, CA. Sold to Ray Daugherty of Placerville in 2005, who moved from Placerville to Reno, NV. I picked it up there, over the www. Indeed, I should have mentionned the 5 lug vs 8 lug wheels on F 100 and F 250. Mine has the 8 lugs. It was restored from the frame up in 1993 (I have some of the receipts) and the engine was rebuilt in 1996 (I have all the receipts) and converted to be able to run on unleaded fuel. The previous owner added an all aluminium radiator and a double fan. It has the Sears heating and cooling system inside, in a custom cab. It is very nice with asome equally nice 20 year old patina. No rust. I will post some pictures as soon as I can get the truck out of Customs. It is still in a warehouse blocked by Luxembourg customs but I spend 3 hours this past friday arguing with customs officials and trying to find the darn VIN. Then I discovered your FTE forum. AWESOME stuff here. I will go back tomorrow and get crouching underneath the passengers side frame rail and take a wire brush.

VIN location on 1966 F 250 in Europe and truck history of past owners

I am interested in finding out the entire history of the truck from dealership first sold and then all subsequent owners. Would it make sense if I asked my in laws in California to go to their local DMV and ask for a history printout since it was always registered in CA. Do DMV provide these services ? Thks. Patrick

FoMoCo threw away ALL the records for these trucks decades ago, so there is no way to discover what dealer in what city sold it new.

CA DMV cannot provide info on vehicles this old. If they could, a fellow searching for the name of the 2nd owner of a 1967 Shelby GT500...that went missing in 1969, would be known.

What he knows is that the 2nd owner ran a body shop on La Brea Ave. in LA, but he doesn't know the same of the shop.

The original owner was Jim Morrison of the Doors. He bought it new from Stockton Quincy Ford, same place I bought my '65 and where I was working at that time.

Fellow wanted me to help him search for the car, but I turned him down. I told him I have no interest in tracking down old rolling piles of misery, celebrity owned or not.

1966 F 250 VIN location

hello again. Well I was able to find the VIN, about halfway between radiator and front cross member. A nice and clean VIN number too. Some hard brushing and it was right there. Customs cleared and the truck is in my garage. A wonderful truck indeed. Thanks again !! Patrick
