1998 Expedition Oxygen Sensor
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Nov-02 AT 12:27 PM (EST)]I have a 1998 Expedition. My check engine light just came on so I took it to the dealer. They informed me that the air filter was torn, which lead the the burn out the Mass Air Flow sensor. So they were going to replace everything above and clean out the entire intake systems for $700.00.
Is this an absolute rip off or does this sound about right? I've checked the parts list and it comes out less than $200.
I'm new to Fords and the forum, any help would be appreciated.

That is a "HOSE" job if I have ever seen one. That price is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS. You could replace everything with better aftermarket parts, and clean out the intake system yourself for a helluva lot less than $700.00. It all depends on your mechanical ability, But what you described can be done with simple hand tools in about 15-20 minutes. Cleaning the intake is simple with modern chemical agents. Check previous posts around the forum to see what peoples preferences are as to cleaners. But I would definetly do it myself. Good luck.

hello, just to start, my mass airflow sensor went out and ford wanted to charge me two hour labor, ($140labor & $280 part). i decided to do it myself,(i am not that mechanical type) it took me 5 min at the most. if you can change your air filter you can change your mass airflow sensor. any question i will be glad to help.
