Learned this from the tech yesterday. Here is the location. Have fun.....


The 6R DOES have a dipstick. "WHERE?" you ask, since you you don't see it in the engine
compartment anywhere. Well... it is on (under actually) the fill plug. There is a hexagonal "fill" plug on the passenger side of the tranny near the front. Pull this plug and you will find the "dipstick". With a warm transmission, and the engine running, tranny in Park - wheels chocked and or emergency brake on (safety first), remove this plug and then separate the dipstick from the hex plug (it nests in the plug - you will understand when you do this), wipe it clean and then replace it in the hole until it bottoms, remove to read the level. Add fluid as needed. Reassemble the plug and stick and reinstall.

Yeah, at the least you could check the level/smell of the fluid.

 

Why would ford do something like that, wouldn't a dip stick be soo much better for checking everything???

 

So you have to take it in and $$$$ for the dealer. Ford no likey home mechanics.

 

Thats why sites like this are so valuable. Is there a page that someone can go to that gives Fords policy on replacement/checking of fluids or home repair in general and the effect on warranty policies ? Hope I didnt miss that info somewhere----

 

That's the dumbest thing I have seen in a long time. Could they not find room to squeeze a dipstick up into the engine bay? Nothing like having to crawl under the car to check a fluid level. Maybe they should put the oil dipstick just above the top of the oil pan and use some sort of crazy triangular shaped head.

Whatever happened to the KISS way of thinking? Keep It Simple Stupid.

 

They saved $12 I bet getting rid of the dipstick.

 

Those two things seem to conflict

I think it is because people would often worry too much about the transmission fluid, dump the wrong fluid in, over fill, under fill, etc..

 

I'm guessing this is an under-truck job?

Any way to stickie or create a section to retain these notes? I'm printing it to stick in my owners' manual but we all tend to lose things (or is that just me? )

Anyone install a longer dipstick so that you can check it more frequently? If so which one works best?
