For what its worth .....

Last November, Consumer Reports tested some batteries from Sears, KMart, AutoZone, Costco, NAPA, Advanced Auto, and WalMart. In Group 65, the Durolast Gold 65-DLG was the top rated battery, after the Sears DieHard Platinum 50065.

(The Sears Platinum battery blew all the other batteries away, but was twice the price)

(The NAPA batteries tested were the Select or the Performance Select, not Legend)

Good luck.

I never had any luck with Duralast parts. Sure its a life-time warranty, but who knows where you will be when the part dies. Three duralast starters in my old F150 in 18 months. I have found that spending more money on a quality part will save me work,or walking, down the road.

The Autozone batteries just like the Walmart batteries are fine and made by Johnson Controls the same company who makes the OEM replacement Motorcraft battery. Just buy on price.

When I got batteries for my wifes truck I got her a set of Motorcrafts from the dealer. They lasted longer than any others I've tried, and the warranty is just as good, if not better than the parts stores.

On my truck I bought the NAPA gold batteries when the OEM one's went bad. After 20 months my truck barely started one day. I drove straight to NAPA, but since I did not plan on my batteries dying that day, I failed to bring the receipt with me. I was told they could not honor any warranties without a receipt. I asked if there was not some way to look this up on the computer since the batteries were bought on a NAPA charge account. Turns out there are corporate stores and franchise stores and the two don't talk to each other.

The guy behind the counter actually told me, we're not like Autozone (as he pointed across the street) and can look up your warranty by your phone number. Guess who went across the street and bought 2 yellow top 850 cca batteries from Autozoo?

I don't think the Autozone batteries are any better than the others, but I do like the ease of the warranty exchange.

That is an unfortunate and rare story on NAPA. Honestly, While it is possible, it happens everywhere it is so hard to beleive, for me anyways, considering my great luck with these guys all across the country, It is a coat to coast warranty.

My story on autozone, is an issue of an A/C delco fuel pump, that wasnt A/C delco. It was a jap rebuild in the A/C delco box... after 3 r&r's. I happend to walk into the store, while the district manager was there, he went to the shop that was doing the repair cuz I gave up after 3 times... the shop showed him, he paid me my money back, paid for the repair. and gave me 2 cases of castrol oil If I signed to be satisfactorily compensated... I did, and never went back.

Truth is, it can happen at any time to anyone of us.

I have had unbelevable luck with the Legend line of BAtteries, I dont know about the lessor stuff.

I got a set from Sam's Club 850 CCAs with 3yr replacement warranty and fairly easy warranty process if you got to replace them. IIRC $80 a piece for the batteries.

The Duralast batterys work good for me. I've had one in my 74' for over 4 years and it has been drained dead over half a dozen times and sits for long periods and still works and charges fine. Have one in the boat for a few years and works great. Put one in the explorer the other year and the year before that installed one in my sisters explorerand its working good. I have no complaints with the 4 I have bought and installed.

That's why I dropped my OEM Motorcrafts, they always had some sort of issue with my warranty so I just went to Autozone, bought two Duralast Gold's and haven't had a problem since. They're everywhere so no matter where you are it's just as simple as dropping in, getting your stuff warrantied, and going home happy.

Never an issue with the Duralasts I have bought. Of course, I always bought the biggest/best they had. Can't get a much better replacement warranty either...

I installed the Wal-Mart "Everstart" series in my Diesel two weeks ago. I went with Wal-Mart simply 'cause they were the cheapest in town ... $75/ea (had to buy two).

After a week, both batteries were leaking acid out of the vent caps ... so much so that the RH battery leaked down the frame and ate the paint/wax coating off. I took 'um back and made a fuss to get my money back; didn't want to go back with Everstart's.

Afterwards, I went over to O'Reilly Auto Parts and picked up two Motorcraft BXT-65 850's (O'Reilly sells Motocraft batteries, obviously). All is fine now!

Its what I have in my truck, and they do fine. I don't drive much and the truck sits for 3-4 weeks between starts pretty regularly, longer in the summer, and its never failed to start.

I bought the high dollar Optima for my last truck and it cost about what two of these did. Didn't really see any difference for my purposes.
