The book says my 223 should use H10 plugs. I can't find them. Searching turns up lots of substitutes. What are you guys using? Does it really matter as long as the bottom end is positioned correctly in the head.The truck is a 54 F100 but the block is newer. Plugs are 14 mm thread. Thanks.

 

7RA-12405 .. Spark Plug

Originally these were Champion H10's.

When Ford bought Auto-Lite, they became: 7RA-12405-A .. Auto-Lite AL7.

When Ford sold Auto-Lite in 1972, AL7 was replaced by: B7A-12405-A .. Motorcraft BTF6

Considering the 100's of different vehicles that used Champion H10's, I find it impossible to believe that no one has any.

Try a good indie autoparts store. You could also try Green Sales in Cincinnati OH (800-543-4959).

The chain auto parts stores are clueless when it comes to parts that haven't been used since grandma was a girl.

EDIT: Dennis Carpenter (704-786-8139) has Champion H10's @ $3.50 each.

I had trouble with H-10's. Now I'm using Autolite 216's and with very good results. NAPA and some AutoZone's carry them. Any store that sells lawnmower parts should have H-10's.

 

Bill, Dick and Ross thanks. Ross what kinda problem did you have?

 

A couple of them just didn't seem to burn clean. No matter which cylinder I put them in, they would get black and start to miss eventually. There was an old one that just flat wouldn't fire (but it had been in the truck for god knows how long).
