The fuel tank install is finished but the truck is still a project in the works. I've since lowered the truck, mini-tubbed the bed and installed a 460/C6 combo.

I'm doing a similar setup on my '67 after reading this and was wondering if you had any pictures of the fuel fill under the fuel door. This is the last thing I have to do to be finished and am having trouble figuring out how to set it up with so little room between the tank and the bed floor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou

If you have a vented cap, just use your filler neck, hose and vented cap from the stock in-cab tank.

Perfect thankyou. I originaly wanted to use a marine style cap and filler but the one I needed was $200 so I'll do this instead. Also does anyone know if the caps listed for the stock tank in lmc catalog are vented? Thankyou

The caps should be listed as w/vented tank and w/o vented tank. Vented tank will have a non-vented cap and vice-versa.

SWBO just gave me the green light to do this , she's tired of smelling gas in the truck .
Woo hoo ! tank is ordered , I am going to move my filler from center to the drivers side rear corner .

Ok, this question has come up several times and after some research I think I have found a solution to installing a Mustang tank that will work on a fuel injected engine like I am planning.

1964-68 Ford Mustang Fuel Injection Tank

This tank has provisions for not only an in-tank fuel pump, but it also has a bung for a myriad of aftermarket sending units with different ohm ratings and the price looks very reasonable.

Bobby
I have a couple questions

what filler neck /cap did you use ? stock ones ?
if so do you have any issues with gas spilling out on quick take offs ? I know the early mustang always spit gas out the back if you stomped on it .
also did you install any kind of vent system for the tank ?

thanks in advance

Bobby, I must apologize to you, for not giving you the Kudos you deserve, in another thread. But here, you have done what anyone would love to be able to do. You have inspired me to try this. I have a bed off project starting when I get back to Baja, and as usual, projects grow to fill more than the available time & money. Clean, clean, clean, is all I can say... Hope I can do similar work...

Thanks buddy. When I started the tank install, I had a basic plan and I just wound up fabbing as I went along.
Take your time and good luck

There were (3) tanks used in the Mustangs from 1965-1970.

The '65-'68 tank was 16 gallons.

The '69 tank was 20 gallons.

The 1970 tank was 22 gallons.

All three of these tanks had the same bottom half. The upper half is the difference for the added capacity.

The sending unit is 10-75 ohms (10 ohms full, 75 ohms empty). However, the Mustang sending unit is specific to the capacity of the particular tank. --longer travel of the float arm as the tank capacity increases.

A sending unit for a 16 gallon or 20 gallon Mustang tank isn't going to be accurate if used in a 22 gallon tank.

1965 Shelby R model Mustangs came from the factory with 34 gallon baffled gas tanks. This was accomplished by putting the bottoms of TWO gas tanks together.

1970 Mustang (Cougar same) fuel tank with Evaporative Emission is 20 gallons, without Evaporative Emission, it's 22 gallons. Same sending unit used with both.

Evaporative Emission introduced in 1970, was mandatory in sold new CA vehicles, may have been mandatory in other states as well.

C8ZZ-9275-C (replaced C5ZZ-9275-A) .. Fuel Tank Sending Unit: 1965/68 Mustang & 1967/68 Cougar.

C9WY-9275-A .. Fuel Tank Sending Unit: 1969 Mustang/Cougar.

D0WY-9275-A .. Fuel Tank Sending Unit: 1970 Mustang/Cougar.
