93 lightning

I was looking at a 93 Lightning for sale on the side of the road but i have no idea what im looking at i spend most of my time in the 87-96 section. i didn't know if i needed to look for the same thing as the regular ones or not. i haven't been able to see the engine or hard underneath yet, but the inside looks clean and so far no body rust that i can find just peeling clear coat. it's black too and i didn't know if it was something good or not i know i like it lol. also by the tags it looks like it's been sitting for a little while but not long. also i don't know if the price is good or not the guy said $3500 for it but i think i can talk him down cause it looks like it was a customers that couldn't pay for the work done because it has diffrent states tag on it that are dead.

Thanks
Kyle

whell first, verify its a lightning and not a clone, all first gen lightnings (93-95) have (R) as the 8th digit of the VIN# = engine 5.8 H.O.
if it has that its real, next we need way more info, miles, body condition, known problems, why it was in said shop?

If truck is in fair shape and drives good 3k seems like fair price IMO.

All lightnings are pretty good, no major design flaws IMO.
some of the few differences are.

93=bright red/black, NON clear coat paint , no airbag, slightly darker grey interior, door panels have felt inserts instead of simulated perferated leather.

94= crimson red/black/white, lighter grey interior, clearcoat paint ,optional keyless entry/alarm, optional center fold down seat,

95= bright red, black, white, had the best trans due to updated fluid pump assy.standard equip fold down center seat,

all 93-95 lightning= thicker frame (snow plow frame) 4.10's w traclok diff, stronger rear end housing, E4OD trans, alum drive shaft, lowered 1 front 3 rear, big front rear + sway bars, higher spring rate springs, IMO the best bucket seats ford has ever had.
one of my L's has 380k miles, and seats still look great with very minimal wear and no rips ect. still extremly comfortable..
motor is speed density (not mass air)(mass air kits are available atleast) 351w with gt-40 cast heads and tubular gt40 intake, 65mm TB, 19lbs injectors
high torque flat tappet cam (not roller). mid-late 93 and newer had (f4te) blocks that are roller cam ready,
options were, tube rear bumper, HD towing pkg, power mirrors, slider rear window,

94-95 added options, premium amplified sound w CD player, keyless entry/alarm, dimming rear view mirror, lighted dual visors,

we need pics, LOL

happy hunting, these trucks are alot of fun for the price.

Lol i was hoping the price was alittle high i might still be able to talk him down because of the condition of the paint and the fact that im gonna have to go through a bunch o crap to get it. i'll try to get pictures alittle later and the vin number to verifiy and i know it doesn't mean anything it's got the lightning seats and you can see something on the dash(windows are tinted good and it was sunny out) it how ever does not have the lighning emblem on the bed im thinking it was repainted cause it looks like the clear coat is peeling so.

Thanks
Kyle

Thanks

This day and age you can find a vortech'd 120k mile, in excelent shape w lots of go fast goodies on it for 6-8k, sounds like by the time you do the repairs and a real paintjob, you coulda had a bad azz truck with 5k worth of goodies on it allready.
So save up and buy one that allready has all the stuff you want on it, and you will save alot of money in the long run.
good luck

Maybe for the mileage but it was wrong for the damage. i went back and climbed up under it to look at the frame where it was reported damaged. you can clearly see the frames bent and the shop fabed up spacers to make up the gap that was made. I mean the frame looked like it was bent about 1/4 out wards

Like i said. priced accordindly. Alot of people turn these into drag trucks. No point in having a clean title, and immaculate truck and tearing it down. But if your looking for a nice clean Lightning, expect to pay. here is a prime example. the truck is just a roller and is painted the wrong color but it is still 2500, and worth it http://www.nloc.net/classifieds/show...ct/11250/cat/2

Keep looking. Don't forget you can also trade. That is what I did. I gave a 1983 Mustang GT with 351w conversion for 1994 Lightning with TFS Twisted Wedge Heads, Anderson Ford package: heads, cam, Bassani complete exhaust, Superchip, and etc. It has 4.56:1 gears now and pulls a camper with ease.

I found a guy on eBay that was trying to sell the Lightning and sent him some pictures of the Mustang. Now I have a fun truck that hauls and tows!
