12 yr. old vehicle and the driver's side seat gets the most use......things wear out eventually. I'd say that's pretty good , especially if there are no major issues with the truck. There are fitted leather covers that replace the originals available from the aftermarket. If you find a good upholstery shop, they may be able to remove the worn piece and sew on a new piece, but the color may not match due to fading and it would probably be expensive. Depends on how much you want to spend, the fabric covers would probably be the most cost effective fix.

I had a seat back split where my son's head rested on the passenger seat back in my truck. I purchased a seat cover online, cloth based, and just covered it up.
There is a local guy that can repair this split and you would never know it, so a local upholsterer told me, but I haven't called the guy because just as sure as I have him fix it, the leather will split in another location.
That's the way my luck runs.
I have seen newer vehicles than mine, a 2001 GMC, where the leather has worn slap dab out plus a 4x4 Ford F 150(2003)!

my 01 seat has been shot for years....even when i bought it at 26k miles. i think a big boy owned it and never took care of the seat. the seat "suspension/frame" was sacked out and eventually the dealer repaired it under warranty. when i asked how much to replace the leather seat cover (labor was free since they had it apart) they quoted me about $800!!!
cheaper to have a local shop re-upholster it or hit the yards.

I want to thank all you guys for your suggestions.
Being retired, of a fixed income, taxes increasing, drugs costing more, etc is eating up my retirement. I can olny afford to go fishing or put that same gas in the Gardening equipment. Guess what Mamaw says to do?
I'm doing things on the cheap these days.
I went to WalMart and got some Seatcovers, Two for $19.95. Then I went to the Second chance store and got a Wool Blanket for $1.00.
To throw over my cheap Seat covers.
Doubtless this is going to be a shabby looking fix after a few miles.
Its what I can afford right now though.
