i havent done it myself but i have been with friends that have screen in the front and watch movies while driving and it is a distraction. i was always having to tell them to watch the road. one of my friends was watching his one night and the road came to a T, you could only turn left or right at the stop sign. well he made is own road straight across and through a fence. all because of the screen.

 

It is a common sense thing.

Some people can handle two or three beers and drive home...shoot some might even be able to have a few inbound to where ever they are going just fine. Does that mean all the open container laws should be pulled and remove or raise the legal BAC limit? Some people can talk on a cell phone and drive fine...many areas are starting to ban cell phone use in vehicles by the driver because everyone as a whole can not talk and drive. It takes just a second for the road conditions to change and all drivers need to be alert to respond to those changes.

But what do I know I am just trying to force everyone to my narrow minded view and projecting my inadequate driving ability on the world.

 

My Wife, and Son were damned near killed by a 22YO texting while driving. Rearended @ 55 MPH.

So sure, lets just keep adding more distractions for drivers to abuse.

 

Same thing here with my father in law. Was rear ended at over 60mph and nearly killed him. Messed his neck up big time and had over $200K+ medical bill and the woman who done it tried her best to get away with it. Lucky for my father in law a cop see it all happen.

 

don't you just hate it when you ask a question on here and all you get is flack from all the know it alls? they sound like a bunch of old women that have nothing to do all day but gripe and bitch about stuff. at least one guy actually knows what you are looking for, besides, if i had that in my truck i'd want my passengers to be able to watch a movie while i was driving, it would keep em occupied and i would'nt have to talk to them. i guess the old women will have some smart### answer to my post too, ok lets hear it.

Well i tell ya what. why your at it why dont ya find a popcorn machine, Mobile bar and get ya self some 3d glasses and ya can fully take advantage of your Movie viewing experiance whislt driveing.

The First few people answered his question so i dont see what your problem is with the other replys. If you dont like the replys then dont look at the thread.

 

Right or wrong, whining or not... the important point is that what you want to do is ILLEGAL in most states. In Texas, I guarantee if a state trooper sees a video device in view of the driver and active, you will be getting stopped. The excuse of "oh, that's only playing for my wife to watch!" won't cut it. You'll be leaving with a fairly pricey piece of paper to remember your poor decision by.

Not whining, not crying, not telling you how horrible of a decision you're making. Just stating facts.

 

In my previous two F-150's I had Kenwood units that both were set up to allow DVD viewing while driving. (The last one also allowed Video playback from iPod). I never used it during my daily commute in bad Dallas area traffic, but we recently drove from Texas to Illinois in my '08, and my wife watched a season and a half of a TV series while I drove (a series I had already seen, by the way). On my '04, I had the windows tinted so dark, you couldn't see the screen from outside the vehicle. Better contrast screens, and getting tired of pulling tint off for inspections prevented me from doing this in my '08, but still never had a problem. (although I'll agree it would definitely get you a ticket if an officer was looking for it).
Once the option becomes available for the '09's, I'll enable it in my current truck as well. More so a passenger can use the Nav screen than for DVD viewing, though both will be nice to have.

 

I have to agree. I'm installing one merely so my wife and kids can quietly watch a DVD while I drive. The lockpick has the advantage of additional outputs for adding rear entertainment using the stock head unit and controls, so I am not fumbling with multiple systems. Now, it's the dam smoker/drivers that I'm really worried about! LOL

Btw: I have had numerous DVD systems over the years and in 32 years on the road have never had a driving accident, though someone backed into me while parked in a lot once, and a storm recently felled a tree into my parked Tundra, which is how I got into this F150 in the first place. Damn trees should be outlawed!
