carb questions

I have a mostly stock (still 6v positive ground) 226 in a 49 ford F1. I have a Holley 94 on it, status post rebuild which is just not working right. My birthday is coming up, should I go for the stromberg 97 or the newer-reimagined carbs (demon 98 etc.).
I am not looking to race it, just drive on weekends and in parades.

i personally like the 94, theres lots around so rebuilding one is a snap not like the strombergs which are harder to find and more expensive same with the demons as they are new and parts are/may be expensive. I run dual 94 on my daily driven flatty

Are you guys using the stock oil bath air cleaner? My Holley is out getting rebuilt as we speak.

When I ordered a rebuilt one, the guy says he cuts the flange off because he can't find the oil bath air cleaners. He's sending me a 'car' model that accepts a standard air filter.

I would and did upgrade to a paper element air filter. I also am a huge fan of Holley 94 carberators. Still a classic look but I hear they are a world of difference compared to the stromberg.

Holley 2100

I realize this thread played out a while ago, but maybe someone can answer my question. I have a '49 F3 pickup with flathead V8 engine that came in pieces. I am rebuilding it now. The carb that came with it is a Holley 2100, but I have tried two older (one is a 1948, other is older) oil-bath air cleaners but neither will clamp on to the top of the carb. Clamps are too large, and look like they want to clamp onto a ring. What's wrong here? Wrong carb?
