Ramps?

If ya'll haven't been out to dig ramps yet, ya better get on it! They're pretty big right now but still good. We went up on Snowshoe yesterday evening and dug a bunch. Didn't hurt 'em too bad though. As you can see in the pic below, they look like grass growin up there. As an added bonus, we saw a mama bear and four little ones on the way home. Hard to get a decent pic. Good times though

They're basically a wild onion with a pretty potent odor and they can be hot. They grow wild around here in the spring and are good cooked with fried potatoes, eggs, and quite a few other things.

Yep they were pretty yummy. We ate almost all of them and froze a few "messes". Glad this thread got bumped... it reminded me I had them. I might break out a pack this weekend.

Today and tomorrow I am at Precision Gas, next place up the hill from Maple Valley Market on the same side of 50.

Building a Keystone retaining wall behind the office building.

I have been out Middleville a couple times, is your house close enough to the road to see it?

Must be, and I must have though your place looked nice because I looked.
I drive right by places that are not to my taste and never really see them.

Bump for 2010!

Went back up for another bunch of ramps this evening. We got out a little earlier this year so there isn't quite as many yet. Didn't see any bears this year.

They were delicious!

Kevin -- they're definitely not for everyone! Some people love to eat them raw. I can't handle that.
