New ford

just picked myself up another ford truck last night,1995 F150 4x4,302 5 speed, needs a coat of paint and a little tlc,and possible a tranny, but for the price I couldn't pass it up,can't wait to get at it tonight and see what other headaches I bought myself.

I think it will be a good little truck.I just kind of happened across it and for $800 I couldn't pass it up,really good sounding engine but it pops out of 5th gear if you push it at all.I would think it would the gear itself.

Sounds like you got a pretty good buy on that one. You should be able to get a transmission from that Maritime Salvage Yard outside Truro. OTOH could be a summers past time for you

Willis

PS I guess I'll have to make a DRL module for mine to comply with Roddney's new law. Mot too difficult I picked up a relay at "The Source" (radio shack whatever) that will do the job.

I figured it was a pretty good deal willis,I was just thinking of pulling the tranny and replacing 5th but the old thing is noisy anyhow so I think I will call maritime and see what they have, they usually have good prices.thats some new law isn't it,another step towards a communist country.

I called maritime willis and they have one of those mazda trannies and I would say thats whats in it from what kevin at maritime said,$500 not a bad price.I put some new flex lines and hard lines on it yestarday,I don't do much highway driving so it will probably be a 4 spd for awhile anyhow.

beware of plugs on the top of those trannies, apparently they pop out, you lose your gear oil - and then she's done.. or something to that effect. read about it elsewhere. I'll try to dig up a link if your curious.

I still may just pull the tranny thats in it and rebuild it,I'm going down to ford in town here today to get some oil filters,so I'll check on price and availablity of a rebuild kit while I'm at it,probably slightly pricier then I want to pay,but we'll see.

I ran the vin,3:55 open, nothing special,I will be on the hunt for a posi 8.8 carrier once I get all the other small stuff done,I finished the brakes up today so I could drive it,couple of new flex lines, calipers and a few hard lines.grand total into the truck is $1020.not bad for a drivable 4x4.

no sir. not bad at all. 3.55 isn't too bad without overdrive, especially if your running 31's on it or something. I'd almost just put a good old NP435 or a T18 in it, that way you know you have something tough.

well I think I'll stick with the 5spd,it won't get much abuse as long as I own it,trips to and from central will be the hardest thing it will ever see,my days of pounding my daily driver are over, cost way too much.I still think I'll be swapping bodies in a year or two,put a 73 to 79 style on it,keep the fuelie 302 and 5 spd with the ttb front end, should make a nice truck then.
