First thing you'll need to do is pull codes to find out why the check engine light is on, then go from there. Not really sure what is involved with 'tuning up' a distributorless all-computer controlled car here....

It's the Duratec 30, which wasn't offered in Ford trucks so I don't know much (or anything, really!) about it. It's cams are chain-driven, so no timing belt to replace. About all a tune-up most likely consists of is new double platinum plugs, plug wires if needed, filters and PCV valve...

my first car was a taurus with a 30 dohc motor, i missed that in my o2 with the regular 30, but anyways, all i did was platinum plugs, wires, and new filters all around. make sure it isnt the egr sensor code, most i have seen get an egr low flow code after 100000. you have to take off the coil to get to the rear plugs anyway so i ended up doing it. made it to 225000 but i abused the crap out of that car
