Foreverford speaks about this x-plan. Does anyone know what this plan consist of? I have been dealing with fleet dealers and they tell me that they can't sell 2002 Lightnings for less the MSRP. 32,480 plus tax axn license.

 

Thats bs, they can sell you the vehicle for any price they want. The x-plan is for people who work for Ford and people who belong to certain organizations. X-paln is a set price that you can not change. The key is finding a dealer who will honor it, its the dealers decision to honor it or not. Remember salesmen are on commission, if they get you to pay more than they make more. If you go to http://eaa.org/ and join this organization (its an aviation organization) it costs $40 a year w/ no extra fees, and they will give you a pin # which will make you eligible for the x-plan. Spend $40 an save about $3,500, its a no brainier. After the 1yr membership is over you are done. If you go to http://eaa.org/ and scroll down to the bottom left of the page it says partner recognition click that and it explains everything. Good luck you can even call EAA, I did and they explained it also.

Trukn, When did the dealer say they were gonna get your 02 in? I recieved an SVT e-mail saying they were starting production this month and the trucks were gonna start to pop up on showroom floors at the end of this month???????

The dealer says they have two scheduled to be built this month and on the lot in December. A red one and a blue one the next two are not scheduled but are gray and black. I ordered the gray. But know that you told me of the x-plan I may join and find a dealer how honors it.

 

Along with the true blue color, what is the horsepower spec.?? Is it going to stay at 380 or is that raising too??

 

The EAA has now changed the X-plan thing, if you didn't join before November 30th, 2001, you have to be a member for a year before the benefit of buying a new vehicle for thousands less becomes available. Just to let you know.

 

Just FYI, the X-plan is not for Ford employess, that is the A-plan. I am a member of the X-plan through work, and it is awesome. The X-plan price usually falls right between the A-plan price and invoice price.

Here's how it worked for me:
You go to the dealer, pick out your vehicle, and they print up the invoice and calculate the price right in front of you. The dealer I visited had four Lightnings on the lot when I was there in December, although I wasn't looking for a Lightning.

A dealer can sell a vehicle for less than MSRP. If a dealer sells a vehicle for invoice price, they make a fair profit calculated by Ford. Anything more a dealer can get over invoice price is pure profit.

 

I shopped for my 2001 Lightning for six months before I bought it. My wife and I walked out of our local Ford dealership three times before striking a deal. They normally mark the Lightnings up $2,000 over sticker ($34,260), but they nixxed that in order to get me to buy. They also threw in an extra set of carpeted and embroidered F-series floor mats. And because they couldn't find the correct 16-inch spare tire, they gave me a slightly used 19-inch 2001 Lightning rim with a new Goodyear F1 on it. Sweeeeeeeeeeeet.

The X plan is exactly 4% over the A plan price. The X plan is for suppliers to Ford and some companys that have a partnership with Ford.

It is too bad that Ford made EAA change the rules to get the X plan. Originally you could get the plan with in 24 hours of joining EAA but now it takes a year.

 

For those still trying to figure out what A-Plan is, it is dealer invoice minus holdback (usually 2%-4% of MSRP depending on model), minus any other incentives. And you don't have to go to the dealer, I did mine 98% over the web...as an X-planner I found my 02 Expy, down to the VIN# on the X-plan website, went to my local dealer's lot and said yep, that's what I wanted. Once they found out my wife was "in the business" they didn't even bother with the alarm/aftersale/extended warranty discussion...easiest buy I have ever made. It is true though as others have said it is at the dealers discretion to participate or not, however I don't think they can be selective by car, its either all or nothing.

Not true. A dealership is independently owned and can do what it wants in regards to an A or X plan sale. In a lot of cases a dealership is happy to sell a unit under both plans because the money that Ford gives back to the dealership (because of the plan) is more than what the dealership might have made selling to a customer without the plan.
