How to change rear wheel cylinder?

I need to change my rear wheel cylinder on my 89 F350 with the 10.25. Now, on my old truck with the D60 rear, I had to pull the whole inner axle apart to change the WC. Is this necessary on these rears? I really hope not, that was such as PITA.

Just pull the drums out, and loosen up the brake pads adjuster screw - tis a bit of shoe-horning to get the new wheel cylinders in place with the pads still in, but tis very doable, that's how I did mine a while back. Also, replace both wheel cylinders at the same time, if one is bad the other ain't in much better shape usually.

If ya want, you can just unbolt the entire hub assembly (its only held onto the axle by 4 bolts) and I'm 97% it will swap right over. I had to do that my 88 when I got it, it has a Dana 70 rear axle, and I'm pretty sure the spare I axle I found was a Sterling 10.25

What? Huh? Whah?

boggerted, it's much easier then the 60 no need to pull apart the axle and hub, the drums will come off without all that.

The D60 isn't a full floater? My D70 is a full floater, so to pull the hub I had to pull the axle. I was just letting him know that if he didn't want to go through the trouble of trying pull the back brakes apart and try to swap just a few pieces, its possible to take off the entire brake assembly plate off of the donor axle and bolt it on his D60.

oops, sorry I just realized what the OP was asking, I thought he was trying to swap parts from his 10.25 to his D60

Almost all D60's are full floaters, and all D70s are. Are you saying you swaped brake parts between one of the rare odd ball semi-floater D60s and a D70? The only truck in your sig that might have either of these axles is the 88 and to be honest I'm not sure what a 88 deisel would have, and it doesn't say if it's a dually, but it wouldn't be a D60 it would be either a 10.25 or a D70.

Tell me more about this semi-floater D60, I'm curious?

It did just hit me that the OP might have had a semi-floater D60 in his old truck and was asking about that. He didn't tell us much about the trucks did he?

Dang it, I hate my of coherency on the internet.

When I bought my 88 diesel (which has a D70 full floater), the entire passenger side brake was destroyed (it hung a shoe I'm guessing, then 7,000 lbs of truck finised off the rest), but a buddy of mine had a Sterling 10.25 laying around, so I just swapped the entire brake assembly off of the Sterling 10.25 to my D70

and you are correct, these diesels pretty much came with either the D70 or the Sterling 10.25, however there are a few odd ***** that have come about. I've heard that a few of the F250's could come with a 8.8 hiding under it, or as you've mentioned the semifloating D60 that came in the light duty F250

It's all good,

I can't remember if the axles have to come out to get the drums off a semi-floater D60, I don't think so but who knows those things are such an abomination anyhting is possible. I would never own one of those axles, and haven't worked on one in many years.

I didn't know D70 and 10.25 brakes swapped, you learn something new every day.

Like the sig, I to support the Libertarian cause. In fact I could use some like minded help here- https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...le-cops-3.html

The D60 under my F250 is a full floating rear, but you cant just pull the crums off them, the hub has to be removed with it. its a PITA

What do you mean, what else do you have to do besides pull the axle?

With a normal D60 you gotta take apart the hub assembly to work on the brakes. This is because the drum is pressed onto the hub from the back with the lug studs. But it isn't really that hard.
