Raptor was a great idea. But Ford stupidly will only make it in a Supercab. And with the price hike it's gonna see...well it's gonna be outside the price ranges of most people who will want one. Ford should have marketed it to the 25-40 yr old with multiple kids. Supercab just doesn't cut the mustard when you have to put kids in the backseat.
btw, the suspension in the front is identical from a 04 to an 09 model. They use stamped steel now for the lower a-arms, but it's all the same. The rear end has longer leafs, so it may require some custom fab to make Raptor stuff fit our trucks.
to be honest, the Raptor is an awesome idea, but the only real reason to buy one IMO is for the body package and the 6.2 motor. You can build a similarly able F-150 for $10-15,000 cheaper that will perform admirably in most 4x4 situations....except Baja of course.

im going to get the same exact motor as in a GT buy a top of the line suspension then drive it to baja and have to tow it home

in that case, why not make it only available in the reg cab?
look at the average income. most people who can afford this truck will be the established family guy in his early to mid thirties. And the majority of these people will walk right by the Raptor for the Screw...for the reasons you said. A practical vehicle that will be at least $10k cheaper
It's like when Ford debutted the Lightning. Awesome idea and did pretty good on it's own. Then they intro'd the HD (tame Lightning) and the sales were outstanding. There are lots of grown-up kids out there who want a fun vehicle, but it needs to serve a dual purpose of family vehicle as well.
I think Ford really screwed up with the Raptor decision. Hopefully the market can support sales of the Raptor enough that it stays...and then maybe Ford will make it a Screw. Otherwise, I'll have to build one myself. Be damned if I pay $40-45,000 for a SCAB that I cannot use

As for the average income. I dont know what the average income is like in the USA, I would imagine its fairly low(no offense intended).
The Lightning, if Im not mistaken, was a reg cab. Seeing as it did fairly well, I dont see why the Raptor wouldn't follow that path. Maybe in a few years they will bring out a Screw Raptor equivalent of some sort(as per the HD example)
They may be assuming that the family man thats interested in this vehicle, has a wife with a 4 door car/suv or minivan. Thus allowing the husband to purchase this toy.

the reason for the super cab is to make the center of gravity more towards the bed of the truck
its hard to explain at least for me
all the weight in the front and a short wheel base sits the COG around the driver seat area but by adding 2 feet to the back of the cab and 200 or so pounds back there it moves it to behind the driver. thats much better under handling and more importantly during take offs and the landings =] (im sure they do MUCH more to the raptor to help this even more)
theres a video of a short cab short bed ranger I4 jumping bone stock and it nose dives like a special Olympics swimmer. same thing would happen to the raptor if it was a SWB truck.

sorry, but saying it's to have a rear heavy center of gravity doesn't jive. the crew cabs add an additional 1.5' of length and 100-200 lbs vs the Scab

well all i know is that if you look up the sportsman class a high percentage of trucks will be the screw
