Fog Light troubles

I put on a lightning bumper w/ fog lights on my 2002 f150... now I am finding that the fog lights appear to be spontaneously cracking...(and no I'm not that dumb that I would say this if it were from rock chips etc)... I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing w/ their fog lights or has any input... thanx

Fog Light troubles

That seems to be a common issue with the Lightning foglights. Many of the Lightning owners seem to be experiencing cracked foglamps which is why I no longer use mine until a fix for the problem is found.

Fog Light troubles

Yea it seems the way the bumper is designed, rocks can miss the fog lights by 5 inches but still finnel their way to hit them. Mine are cracked too

Fog Light troubles

DynamicGn, it seems like that the people who are running their foglamps on all the time when their headlamps are on are having a much higher rate of cracked or broken foglamps. Do you run your fogs on all the time?

Fog Light troubles

I dont run mine on all the time anymmore, but the first week i had the truck it was the norm. Who really uses these things for fog anyway?? Whats the argument there, do they need fog to cool them off?? Seems like they should be able to run 24/7 no problems. I plan on stoping in the dealership today and ill inquire about a recall.

Fog Light troubles

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Jun-02 AT 01:23 AM (EST)]
I have a 2001 Lightning with 8,000 miles on it. When I went in for my first oil change the service man told me that Ford had problems with cracking fog lights. He showed me the cracks in them that I never noticed. They replaced them and told me to come in whenever I have my oil changed and they will replace them for free. He said that it would be easiest to do it at oil changes, since i would be there, but I could get them replaced anytime they needed it. My service man told me SVT has not figured out how to keep them from cracking at high speeds. The cause of the fog lights cracking is the bumper shaking at speeds over 60, FORD WILL REPLACE FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!
-I had mine replaced twice.

Fog Light troubles

I am glad you posted this, because i'm going to start using my fog lamps now. I havn't been using them because i'm afraid that they might crack. If they are cracking because the bumper is shaking, then why do more people have trouble with them cracking that use them all the time?

Fog Light troubles

I doubt vvvery much that shaking has anything to do w/ the cracked foglights... that makes absolutely no sense esp. since mine gets outta the small city like never... only had it for a month... phoned ford canada consumer service... and they were like " really?!?!?! there is a problem?!!!?!??!" so I really doubt that we are gonna see a permanent fix soon if ever... cheap plastic w/ hot bulbs = crack baby crack

Fog Light troubles

Just got my 2002 ford f-150 harley on 6-12-2002 and noticed 2 days later that one of my fog lights is hazy. I guess it is cracked.
I will be taking it to the dealer this weeks to see what they say.
Just waiting to hear from insurance company for my claim, 4 days after i picked it up, someone ran into the back of me. What a bummer
