Is there a limited slip differential option on the 2008 Expedition, or standard with one of the axle ratios?

 

No the only option is the non-limited-slip 3.73 axle for the EL and 3.31 for standard Expy. Unless your asking aftermarket?

 

I think limited slip interferes with RSC etc.

Yes a LSD is an option but must be ordered with the Limo conversion package. Not sure why you can only get with the limo package.

 

Chuck I think your are correct. A mechanic friend actually indicated to me the term (non)limited slip is sometime also referred to a electronic limited slip dif, in Ford's case anyways. Whereas the abs and other systems monitor for slip and apply braking power to the slipping wheel up to 50%. This is what the EXPY uses and I believe is part of the tag AdvancTrac with RSC. I'm not sure why the limo package gets the true limited slip option. Perhaps the limo packaged doesn't come with the AdvancTrac with RSC option and thus needs the limited slip diff??

 

I am curious why they say Limited slip is not compatable with the RSC. If LS keeps one wheel from spinning, then the RSC would not even come into play. Maybe it has to do with the vehicle being corrected in the event of bad swerving by the RSC applying brakes to one side or the other to stop swerving.

I still dont see a problem if the LS is not a clutch type or locker. A Gleason or some "geared" LS would allow one wheel to spin faster/slower with brake apply by RSC.

We looked for a 4X4, couldnt find one at the time we were looking so we settled for a 2X4. I would at least like to have a LS (General term, not a specific type) that would hold better than the RSC.

Anyone got an idea?

 

I noticed your in longwood, I'm up in Tampa and you'll find that down here you'll rarely need 4wd, even on the beaches with the new traction control. I went on a couple of jobsites in 2wd where I would have been done in most cars/trucks but believe it or not the expedition kept on pulling. traction control moaning away.

 

Yea, you are right! Off-road to me is the part between the parking lot and the boat ramp . Kinda would like the extra insurance of LS (TL/locker etc). Been a long since I launched at the ramp on Ft. Desoto state park----if its still there!
