Rebuilding a 351W
Anyone have any experience with this? I am looking to find out what kind of HP I can get out of this motor with a good cam and intake, etc. I'll be supercharging it but don't want to put a stroker on it.
I am basically starting my research so I know what I will need to do.
This is my 'fun truck', and since it has a supercharger on it I would really like to get around 400 or 450 HP but was told to get above 370 I need a stroker kit...looking for input.

RIKIL what year is your 351 is it a roller motor? To get that kind of HP shouldn't be a problem with that supercharger. Put a decent set of aluminum heads on it with a roller cam (E-303 or stage 2 Trickflow) will put you over 400hp with ease. If you are doing a total rebuild you might want to look at strokers 393's or 408's can be had at a very reasonable price. I don't know what kind of boost you are runnig or EFI but you can get over 450hp easily with this kind of set up.

Plan on spending at least $2500 on heads, cam, and intake, $2000 to rebuild the bottom end with better rods and forged pistons, and another $2000 on fuel system and induction upgrades. Putting a carb on it may not be cheaper depending what transmission the truck has, and speaking of the tranny expect to put some more money into upgrading it to handle the extra power.

Heads and a new intake manifold will be needed. Choices for EFI intake manifolds are limited, but in looking for a manifold setup for my future 408 stroker build I was thinking of Either the TrickFlow 351 R-Series Manifold or the Professional Products Typhoon Intake system. Both make power in the 1500-6500 RPM range. The stock manifolds are horrible and must be eliminated if you want to make big power.

in this preliminary stage I plan to replace the intake manifold and the heads, as well as new pistons. Would like to not do a stroker, they are expensive and I don't think I need it.
The motor is a 1992 351W. I have yet to investigate what I will need to do with fuel, I have the stock fuel injectors on there now and the supercharger kit provided me with an extra fuel pump which I mounted on the frame rail near the fuel filter. I also got a Fuel Management Unit. With all that I think I would need to get injectors that supply more fuel but other than that I think I will be OK, the other upgrades in the system for fuel delivery are already in place.

It looks like the only thing I need to worry about is the size for the throddle body, is that right?

what is your budget? if your putting on a blower probably pretty high
i would get a new set of h-beam rods for that power level, 450hp is when i suggest h-beams in smallblocks i build. i would get the trick flow twisted wedge heads (best bang for buck) (get the bigger version with the bigger runners) do a little porting on them yourself not much but just basically smooth everything out and match it to your intake and headers i would ditch the fuel injection and go with a carb probably a 750-800cfm hollley vac secondary if it's a automatic and mechanical secondary if it's a manual tranny
i would use an edelbrock rpm airgap intake or a victor intake
get your compression up to around 10.5:1 you can run pump gas with that compression and aluminum heads but it's right on the edge run 10:1 if you want to be on the safe side. get some good headers like 7/8ths primaries and 3in collectors
i would say this combo is good for around 400-450hp naturally aspirated without running it on desktop dyno
if you get a blower are you going to get a roots blower like an 8-71 and pop it out of your hood with duel quads? that would be nasty
but if you get a blowthrough carb and run a novi on the same set up with 8-12lbs of boost you should make enough power to make you happy
now if you are running boost keep your compression at like 8-9:1 compression depending on how much boost you have and i would use an 850cfm blowthrough carb with boost, definatly use cometics head gaskets if you are going to run more than like 5lbs of boost
by the way my buddy just dyno'd his mustang with a motor i helped put together and it made 909hp to the wheels....... he has a 347 with a fmpp "R" block forged internals victor jr. heads ported by some dude in texas victor manifold with twin turbonetics turbos i forget how big but they are perfect for the engine he had some bigger ones on it and he had trouble getting them to spool. i think he has 28lbs of boost and methenol injection......all in a foxbody mustang....it's his street car by the way

now you are on the right track with the heads i would not go with thre R intake but mabe the Performer RPM intake. I would for sure while you where in there convert it to a roller cam well worth the expense. The head numbers you speak of are flow #'s match them to the lift on the cam you don't need a .700 lift cam with a set of heads that flow 250 cfm at .500 lift any thing like an E303 cam or a little bigger will work fine for you. 42lb injectors and a 75-80mm mass air meter up grade your in tank pump that should be enough to fuel your motor with your other fuel pump

I already have the supercahrger, it has been on the stock motor for 11 years now. It's a V1 model SUPERCHARGERS: Vortech V-1 Series Supercharger | Vortech Superchargers
Not sure what sub-model. I also have a set of headers which I think will suffice but I am going to get a less restrictive catalytic converter, in my exhaust system I think this is where the bottle neck is now.
From the discussion here I will have what I need for fuel (sticking with fuel injectors), just need to get the new injectors.
What about the computer on the truck, will any mods be needed for that? I am not sure how it will handle all these new parts that let in lots more air and fuel.

Yes that's the BIG problem, the computer won't handle these upgrades and it's not comaptable with available tuners, so you need to convert to mass air and use one of the truck MAF computers.. assuming you have an E4OD tranny. Then you need to get a chip burned by somebody that knows what they are doing or add a tuner and learn to program it yourself. This is the "$2k fuel system" upgrades I was talking about, bigger injectors and all the control upgrades needed to make them work.
