2009 V10 Fuel Mileage

Starting in '05 the v10's not only got a significant horsepower boost, but the chassis got heavier and the tow ratings went up, etc. It just seems to me that whenever I see postings about people getting 12 and 13 mpg, they have the older v10's. There could be as much as a 2 mpg difference, and when you only get 10 - 11 mpg, that's closer to maybe 15 or 20 per cent...
Of course since mine's a dually I could be all wet.....

yea i'd bet ur mileage will be almost the same given teh stronger new engine but heavier new truck..
biggest difference might be gearing,...what does ur 03 have v.s what the 09 would have ?
u also do get the new 5speed Auto tranny in the 09 thou, which is a nice feature over the 4speed in our years truck...

More power + More Weight = Less MPG.
The '03 will get better mileage.

Fuel Mileage
I just sold a 2001 F-250 4-door short bed 4x2 SD that had 258,000 miles on it. I averaged 12mpg in town and 15-16 on the interstate at 80mph. I never did ANYTHING but change the oil every 3,000 miles and never a single issue.
I just purchased a new F-250 SD 4x4, 4-door, short bed last Saturday with a 6.5 L diesel, and so far I am at 1,089 miles and the best fuel economy I've seen yet is 12.6 mpg on the INTERSTATE and 11.1 in town. This SUX's. It get WORSE fuel economy than my V-10 Gas did!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm almost on "E" and have the tripometer set. I'll see what this tank gets. This tank will be almost all city driving also so I don't expect it to be that great. If it's over 10mpg I'll be happy and it's looking like it will be. I'm right at 250 miles on the tank and I've yet to put over 25 gallons in the thing, even when the computer said I have "0 miles until empty".
Funny though, when I first filled it up, it said I had 354 miles until empty. I aint gonna make it to 300 miles, that's for sure.
The dash was saying I was up around 13mpg average. That was after two tanks of interstate driving bringing it home. That's gone down to 12mpg with this tank. Don't think it's super accurate though.

I wish I had calculated the two tanks while driving on the interstate, but I was just trying to get home and didn't even think about it. The truck has 16,000 miles on it now so I would think the mpg is as good as it's going to get. I drive pretty much like grandma 99% of the time too (if I want to get stupid, I have the Mustang) so whatever mpg I'm getting, that's as good as it's going to get.

That REALLY is terrible fuel economy! I am actually researching Biodiesel at the moment, and I think I'm going to buy a processor and begin making my own Biodiesel and then I won't have to worry about what crappy economy it gets. From what I've researched so far, www.sweethomebiofuel.com seems to have the best setup I've seen so far. I do also have a 2008 Kia Rio that gets 40 mpg that I use as a run-around car, and it's actually a VERY good car.
