Replacing Water Pump

Replacing water pump on 2000 f450 7.3L diesel. I have pump in hand, new airtex from northern auto parts.
1) Should put new thermostat in while i'm in there? What brand and temperature range?
Heavy bucket truck hauling heavy equiptment and sits idiling long periods of time while working boom that runs off pump from engine.

2) Is there water pump replacement link somewhere on site?
Have seen repair videos on you tube before, lost that link, hopefully
someone can direct me to it.
Thanks in advance folks, the people on this site are always so helpful.

Diesel-Central.com the technical source for Diesel Truck information, Truck Pulling, and Drag Racing

The link above is an excellent write-up and gets quoted often, BUT, this article has some bad information about the water pump bolt torque.

It states "Tighten the water pump bolts to35-46 Lb*Ft.". THIS IS DEAD WRONG. If you do this you can easily strip the water pump mounting holes in your ENGINE BLOCK! The correct torque is 18 ft-lbs. I contacted the web site owner months ago when I discovered this problem and I was told "I've asked the author to change it". Sadly it is still wrong.

The photos and other info are very helpful. Good luck with the replacement.

I would get a new factory temp range T-stat and a billet housing from Diesel Site. That's what will be going in to my rig soon.

Here's a utube link. I found this particularly helpful.

YouTube - Water Pump RnR

I replaced mine with the very same airtex from Northern. I also replaced my thermostat with the 203* and went ahead and purchased the billet housing. The billet housings are nice because the ford factory stamped metal parts are pretty cheesy.
