Anyone know how to tell if you have 2 wheel or 4 wheel ABS, besides trying it somehow, is there a number or code or something that will tell me? Thanks!

 

Ford doesn't put the 4 wheel ABS in the trucks. They did for 2-3 yrs back in the early 90's as a test bed, and then went back to Rear Wheel ABS

So there shouldnt be 4 wheel abs in my 2004 STX 4x4 4.6 4 wheel disk brakes. I just need to know cause Napa wants to know if i have 4 wheel or 2 wheel ABS for the new front brake hoses im getting. Thanks!

 

I know I have 4 wheel ABS, and I think it's been standard fare since around 2001 or so.

 

See if you have wires in the front going to sensors by the wheel. Easiest way to check I think

 

I have a small plastic tube that runs with the brake line into the back side of the hub area. There is also a larger tube looking peice that comes down and connects to the top side of the hub area. Nothing that really looks like wires, they both look like tubes.

 

Both F150s I've bought, both in 2003 and my '07 have stated on the window sticker that 4-wheel ABS was standard...

I've seen lots of dodges with 2-wheel, but never a Ford.

 

Check each wheel for an electrical connection. Two wheel ABS only has the connection on one axle. Four wheel ABS has the electrical connection on both front and rear axles.

 

Is there an ABS module inline with the brake lines below the master cylinder. And if i had 4 wheel would both lines go into it, where as if i has 2 wheel, one would by pass the module and the other would go into it. Also where would the electrical connectors be at? Out at the wheel, or on the axle somewhere? Thanks!

Cant beleive that there isnt an easier way to find out.

 

Can i trust this from Edmonds, it shows standard equipment for the 2004 STX and shows 4 wheel ABS.

I believe 4 wheel abs has been standard since 97......the prior generations were not....but i know my 07 is 4wheel

 

Just ran outside and looked under the hood, the two lines coming out of the master cylinder go right into the ABS module and three lines come out, and im assuming that one is for the back wheels and the other two are for each front wheel. Does this sound right? And i am also assuming that this means i have 4 wheel ABS brakes?

 

Yes, you have 4-wheel ABS.





I believe it was 98-99 it became standard. I say that because my 97 only had rear wheel ABS.

 

That plastic tube is a breather for your hubs if im correct.

 

So the small hard plastic hose is a breather and the large hose that connects to the top of the hub area is for the 4wd?
