Governor Adjustment

When i talked to the current owner about the truck im buying, he said the RPM governor cuts the engine at the beginning of the ellow area. My question is this. How would i go about adjusting the governor for the RPMs? I would like to get it to stop at or just below redline, not that i plan to be in the yellow that much anyways, but a from what i learned driving semi, having a couple hundred RPM reserve comes in real handy at times. And before anyone gets on me about diesels not being high RPM engines, i know that, i went to one of the best truck driving schools in the country and have held my CDL class A for a little over a year. When i took the truck for a test drive i found 2k to be a comfortable shift point. Once i get used to the truck i will prolly shift around 1250-1500 though.

Only way to change it is the governor spring itself. If ur going to do that ull probaly turn up the pump. So go ahead and get u a pyrometer. Just as some insurance. These things can get hot real quick at that rpm.

I thought the governor was set at 3300rpm? So you should never have a problem correct?

Most of them were around 35 or 3600 when they were new.
But like everything else, they get weaker with age.
