Not yet. Had some time off a few times, no more than a couple weeks at a time. I did lose a job about 6 yrs ago due to staff cuts. Didn't really like the place and recieved a very nice severence package. Plus it gave us the opportunity to come back to BC. Never thought I would end up here though.

Did work on the tugs as a Mate but got laid off in June, then again in Sept. and yet again in Nov. and havent been back since unfortunately. Lots of the guys were laid off last year about this time. Guess i was lucky for a little bit.

I suppose its kinda ironic, but my job gets busier durring depressions because the government pumps money into infrastructure. The first people that get ahold of that money are the engineering consultants to do studies, design, and supervision.

That being said, I sure hope that the economy picks up, because I don't like seeing people go through tough times.

The drill companies from around here have sent most of their drills out of province. Sask, South America, Africa . . . They are still busy, but I was told by a friend that there is way more drillers helpers around now.

Ya drilling is starting to pick up again, a little bit. I'm out of that profession now. I got hurt really bad last spring and had to be air lifted out of the NWT. Right now I'm in Physo and looking for a new carrier. I don't have a choice weather I get to go back on the drills or not. It kinda sucks, but life goes on.

Have you tried Hytech Diamond Drilling, or Driftwood Diamond Drilling? Both those companies are based here in Smithers, but work around the world.http://www.hy-techdrilling.com/Pages...g.com/contact/
Good luck to you and everyone else that is looking for work.
