Bought a `61 F100....BUT

Hello,I don`t normally post on here because I`m rarely stumped like I am right now.

I picked up a 1961 F100 unibody today. I assumed that all 2wd F100`s had 9" rears...but this one does not. When I was loading it on the trailer I was very suprized to a Spicer/Dana type rear axle under it. It has the correct 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern, and it looks to be the right width.

Would this be some sort of factory option,or was a 53-56 style rear swapped into my truck at some point in it`s life??

Welcome to FTE

Your truck has a LIMITED SLIP rear end if it's a Spicer-Dana 44.

When 1959/67 F100's were ordered with Limited Slip, the Spicer-Dana 44 was installed.

And...Ford also offered as an option, the Spicer-Dana 60 for 1961/67 F100's...with or without Limited Slip.

This 60 uses the same 5 lug, 5.50" bolt pattern wheels.

Look on your trucks Warranty Plate for the AXLE code, post what it is.

BTW...also stumped on what these two codes mean...DATE: 222 and DSO: blank

What I do know is that it is an original paint Holly Green `61 Unibody shortbed 2wd,with a 223,light-duty 3spd,and it was the 644th unit built in March of 1961,so I am guessing within the first few days. My B-Day is March 4th,would be pretty sweet if this truck was the same...lol.

The last line on the Warranty Plate should have the GVWR / HP / RPM / DSO code.

There is no date shown on the facsimile of the Warranty Plate in the parts catalog for 1961/62 F100/750's.

Suggest you post a pic of the plate. Ford didn't always stamp the codes in the correct location.

NEVERMIND......
your right like usual
4th number set, "53" nowhere near the 'DSO' title.....real far to the left.

So....no other opinions on the missing DSO or the Date:222???

I checked the tag a dozen times, the bottom row of codes has something for GVW,HP,and RPM,but the DSO is completely blank.

Obviously nobody believes anyone without a picture on here. Guess telling the truth means little nowadays.

53 = Kansas City Ford District Sales Zone Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

FoMoCoPower: It's has nothing to do with what some of us believe..or not.

Do you see what FTE member Faber typed above?

Ford mis-stamped code(s) on the Warranty Plates, put them in the wrong place, or may have left the code(s) off in error.

There's an old saying: "A picture says a 1000 words."

If you lived in Burbank CALIFORNIA, I could swing on by, and look at your Warranty Plate.

Can't do that since you live in Burbank....Illinois.
