That was without the cap/topper on the back.

If it were me, I'd check the truck at a real weigh station to see what it really weighs. A scrap metal yard isn't too concerned about how accurate the scale is. They are more concerned about the DIFFERENCE between when you go in and when you come out.

As in, if you weigh 500 lbs less than you did going in, that's 500 lbs in scrap metal. Doesn't matter if the scale says 8000lbs, or 9000lbs, or whatever, it's the difference between loaded and empty that they care about.
This is how the scales is calibrated/certified also. Our truck/grain scales at the grain elevator gets checked 1ce a month and certified 2ce a year. What they do is pull a truck on the scale then add a known weight to the truck 2,000lbs. They will keep adding 2,000 lb of weight and check to see what the differeces are. We do the grain scale the same way but we put grain in the scale usually 2,000lbs then whe pickup 2,000lbs weights check difference add more grain pickup weights log the differece etc etc. They don't know how much grainnis innthe scale or what the truck actually weights. 2ce a year they inspect the load cells wire connections etc. At this time they will put 2000lbs on/in the scales and see hiw it weighs but from there its a difference between a gross weight and a tare weight that's is logged. It doesn't really matter how much the scale says you weigh but how much the differece is. FWIW our scales is alaways within 20s of true weight. That's because we can only read multipies of 20. Our differences of 2000lbs has always been right on.

My 2008 F-450 King Ranch with tow package, tool box, me, full tank and no hitch in it weighs a certified 9,480 lbs. This is the 14,500 GVWR and the combined 33,000 lb set up (4.88 gears, tow command, tow package, DRW [I know it only comes DRW]). So the tongue weight is my limiting factor - with DW & dog in we can only have about a 4,800 lb tongue weight.

Last week.....at an Oregon scale....2 adults...2 dogs and almost a full tank of fuel(38 gallons) weighed in at 7600 lbs.

I took a 3 wheel barrow loads of busted tile to the dump the other day and it weighed 8400 lbs when I checked in. That was with the camper shell on and fuel tank/toolbox combo and probably 60 gallons of fuel total. It's heavy.

My '11 was around 9200. That's when I weighed my camper and everything, went back unhooked to get the truck weight, Me, wife, dog, 2 kids (3 & 8), fifth wheel hitch, toolbox and all the stuff I carry around, which is pretty substantial. Granted, my family of 4 only weighs in at about 400lbs.

What I hate is that my truck is a 10K GVWR, so I'm probably overweight according to the law with virtually any trailer I attach.

Go to DMV and register it at 15,000 lb. This way you will be invited to Highway Patrol scales in some states
My truck goes above 10,000 lb with full tank and me in it 15,000 GVW and I have 30,000 lb sticker on it.

The gvwr is what your truck can weigh, the gcvwr is what your truck and trailer combined can weigh, check your door tag again.

The CAT scales said my truck weighs 7,220 lbs with myself at 220lbs and a full tank of gas.
Its a 2009 F250 SCAB XL 4x4 longbed model with 6.8L V10, AT, 17" OEM wheels and tires, WTW steps and a 5th wheel hitch in the bed.
Its GVWR is 9,600 lbs and Cargo capacity is 2,843 lbs.
So from the factory my truck weighs around 6,757 lbs.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
