how to change coolant and thermostat properly

ok. i have worked on old cars and equipment. but nothing new.
i posted a thread about my heater problems in my 2004 f-150 with a 5.4 engine lariat. see the thread please!!!! i got no response to my thread.

so..in addition to that thread (please go read), i need to change my coolant and thermostat apparently. to eliminate the possibility of a bad thermostat and i just passed 100,000 miles.

so, how do i do that on this truck? any youtube clips?
what kind of fluid? what mix? tips and tricks? do i use permatex on the thermostat housing? flush the system? where is the best place to buy thermostat? dealer? or napa?

will it hurt the engine to fill the radiator with the coolant mix. then crank it. and leave off cap. and wait for the level to drop..and keep adding coolant?

please. i need some help.

its cold and i need my heater!!! and im broke!!!
