Installed y pipe and removed cat. Left stock muffler on 1999 v10. Truck sounds like a six cyl now.it is ok at idle .under a load it sounds bad.what should i do to make it have a deep truck sound?

Could try a chambered muffler like the FM70BB2 or FM50BB muffler. A chambered muffler will help the truck sound more like a V8 but the V10 has a unique sound of its own.

My truck sounded like a horrible V6 with a fart can after I put my Thorley headers on. I had a lightning style exhaust with a dynomax ultra-flo muffler, before the headers it didn't sound too bad. Look in this thread and you can see what exhaust I have on now and theres a video in there too. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...-fm70-mod.html

It is NOT hurting your power to have it in place.

The more cylinders an engine has, the higher pitch the sound will be. Take V12 lambos for instance, they sound like "dueling chainsaws" when they rev up.

Please please put it back on.

After that, then put a different muffler on it.

I have Banks headers w/y-pipe going into a single pipe and Flowmaster and mine sounds great not like a v6 and not too loud.

Removal will not hurt performance.

if left on and they start to plug up, that will hurt performance.

Most after years of use start to get plugged up.

If they do start to clog, just cut them out and replace with pipe.

And no, will not hurt mileage either.
