leaving trailer hitch in

Is it against the law to leave an unused trailer hitch in the receiver? Couldn't find anything about it.

Nothing illegal about it unless is hangs out more than 1.5 m from the back bumper in which case it needs a red flag in daylight and red light at night...

If for nothing else it makes for good entertainment watching people walk into it and skinning the shins.. Teach them for not looking where they're walking.
If you're that close that to skin you shins on my hitch then you're just way to close to my truck. Its merely defending itself. LR

No it's not illegal.
I've even heard from a few people that if you don't have a hitch or ball on your bumper you can't have stuff hanging out the back of your truck (yes i know you need the red flag if you have stuff) But i'm saying if you dont have the hitch or ball, nothing can hang out the back, flag being useless. Correct me if i'm wrong please, i've been known to make mistakes before.

A couple of idiots driving small cars with plastic grills went 'crunch' a couple of times while behind me in a drive-thru, or while stopped at a light. It only sticks out about what....4" or 5"? Didn't leave nary a scratch on my bumper either....OR the chrome on the hitch, or powder coating on the steel mount
Before anyone says "Hey man.....that wouldn't have happened if that hitch wasn't sticking out...", all I'd say is, if you are pulling within 6" of someone's bumper, you're way too close.....Personally I think if you're within about 4 feet of someone's bumper, you're way too close. JMMHO.
