Need help with tag numbers from my rear differential.

A little more detail:
If the codes on the rear differential tag were:
S409B
3L73 102 8C11
The break-down of these codes would be:
S409B:
S = Sterling Differential
409 = Print Number (Model Number)
B = Revision Identifier (Change in Design)
3L73:
3L73 = 3.73 Ratio
L = Limited Slip
Absence of L = Open Differential.
A 3.73 geared limited slip axle would be marked as : 3L73.
An open differential would show 3(space)73.
102 denotes the ring gear size. 10.25 inches.
8C11 is the build date.
8 = year of manufacture. In this case it means 1998.
C = month of manufacture. A= January, L= December so C= March
11 = day of manufacture. So the differential was manufactured on March 11,
1998

well... that sucks..
That explains alot. Now I know why I have one tire spinning all the time and not switching over to the tire that is not spinning.
I have been looking at installing some Eaton ELockers... Now I know that it will be huge improvement when I do finally get to do it.
Will the front diff have similar tags for identification?

Of course, I guess it's all a matter of perspective. The motor oil that comes in the engine would also be good for the life of the engine if you just left it in there. You'd likely just end up with a very short life.
