I'll start a new thread here and see if we can't revive a little interest of some kind in the atlantic chapter.I'm starting my 306 sbf build for my 78 F100.bought a 5.0 engine from an 89 mustang.took the fuelie gear of it and got rid of it and sent the heads to a local machine shop for 3 angle valve job and a good going over.thinking on the E303 cam and a weiand stealth or excellerator intake and a holley 670 street avenger carb.already running dynomax long tubes and 40 series on it.this should wake up the old girl a little.will be a good start to my quicker then 16 second 1/4 mile time.

 

Hi, it`s nice to see a post on here finally after a long spell.
Sounds like a neat motor build, it should wake your truck up nicely.
The 3.55`s without an overdrive transmission will kill off some of your fuel mileage off though it`s not bad if it`s not your daily driver.

 

no its not going to be a daily driver,just a toy and maybe a little back and forth to work.all in town driven on those days,not looking for fuel millage looking to melt some tires and take to the track and have a little fun.should turn on pretty well,the truck is light.weighed in at 3720 lbs.I found a set glass fenders and some other things to help lighten the load.

 

I dont know why i am always so damned interested in the economy factor of rides, but I am!

However since its your toy, go for broke man! Find some 4:10 gears, slap in a c6 or even a well built c4 (if your going for an auto) and you will easily have a tire melter!

Sounds like a neat project though, although now that ya mentioned it, we are gonna need pics!!

 

well thats really all I'm going for right now is a tire fryer.but its a C4 now I'm going with a 2500 stall and a shift kit,if I could get some 4:10's that what will go in it.

 

Sounds like a sweet driving truck, northeaster. My 79 ran 16.2 in the 1/4 with a 351W, but that was also with 2.75 gears. 3 somethings would make it a fair bit quicker.

 

well it should be quick enough to get into the 14's I would think.I had an 89 5.0 convertable with a cage in it that was 3669 lbs with a fairly stock engine,T5 and 4:11 and the best I could get out of that was 13.98 until I did some more work.

 

3669 seem`s heavy to me as I always thought these cars were in the 3,200-3,300 lb range. It seems I learn something new every day.

I believe your right on the money for the weight for the coupes,and I think the hatches were right around the same weight.mine had an overbuilt 6 point cage,and subframe connectors,and the verts have the stiffning rails on the inner rockers and the power top pump and motor are a soggy combination too.but it did launch nice with all the extra weight in the rear of the car,battery was back there too.without slicks I was going by the tree in third gear spinning the tires and with slicks just grabbing for second.I kinda miss that car,until I remember what it was like with the top up and in the rain.

 

Sounds like quite the ride down the drag strip.
No problems with my 83 5.0 convertible in rain except for hydro planing.......

 

sounds great noreaster but it's still a truck. why not sell the 2wd and get another mustang,there much more fun.get the 4wd on the road to have a truck when you need it.my best time with my 89 5.0 was 14.10 at Maitland years ago.it was stock except for headers.

 

I had a 87 mustang back when i was in the last year of high school, and I miss that car something fierce too. Im gonna get another one yet, i have a few ford trucks kicking around, time for a fun car

I will someday have another 5.0.I want to buy a nice rust free 4cylender and buy a smashed or rotten 5.0,but for now I want to see how fast I can get that truck moving with a base engine from a mustang.alot harder to get a truck fast then car,looking for a challenge hahaha.but yes the 5.0 mustangs are a hell of a fun car,I had an 82 gt,81 rs capri and 86 gt and the 89 convertable,all met the same demise except the convertable.rocks and trees are hard on cars.
