6.2

Anyone heard whether or not the 6.2 is gonna be available in the F150? I know the Raptor is a go, and the 6.2 will be available in about a year. This sounds like the perfect engine in the F150 to compliment all that towing capability. And gearheads like me will really love it!
I cant see Ford mass produceing the 6.2 version of the f150 my self. They are bleeding money and the last thing they need to do is make a type of f150 that hardly sells. I think that the raptor is a good idea because it's perfect for these people who wanna go fast and still have a truck. But putting the 6.2 into there current line would just cost far to much money comapired to how many they would sell.

If Ford was smart they'd offer these 6.2's as an upgrade option on all their F150 trucks.
They could have a small inventory of the 6.2 engines and see how it goes. Once they are selling build to order or keep buildingthem.
That's all the new F150 is missing right now. There are plenty of people who would want the 6.2.

Good thought, Watz, but from what I've seen from the '09s so far, Ford is counting on fuel economy, not just capability, to sell these trucks. Currently, the '09 gets the best MPGs of anyone out there, and can still tow 10k+.
I'd love to see it as an option, though...as I've never met horsepower i didn't like...

Ford is hurting for $ right now so I don't think their main focus is on HP in their trucks, but more like SURVIVING.
As for the higher HP 6.2? Ford acted in a similar way with the new Mustang. NO 18" tire option was available on the GT model. Which is like having a horse with no saddle. Later they offered it. Why? After the "gotta have" gang got their units Ford had to "entice" the other crowd by offering more sexy options. I'm sure that same mind set is being played out here with the 6.2 in the F-150.

Production numbers
With sales slumping, Ford plans to produce 430,000 vehicles in the fourth quarter, unchanged from previous announcements. The company also plans to produce 430,000 vehicles in the first quarter of 2009, though. During the first quarter of 2008, the company produced 692,000 vehicles. Lower output reflects Ford's efforts to realign supply with demand.
Does this mean lower incentives in 09' on average? I believe so.

Which is pretty funny b/c they're about the same in a superduty, with the V10 getting better mileage while towing while the 5.4 getting better mileage while empty - each swing by 1mpg at most... If the 6.2 will pull like the V10, get the mileage of the v10 when loaded and the mileage of the 5.4 when empty, i'm all for it. From what I hear it's loosely based on the mod motor, basically with the biggest change being the bigger bore... if thats indeed the case, i can't wait... for a dohc version.

I don't agree with it costing too much to put it into the F150. They have already done the engineering to make it fit with the Raptor. They obviously have already installed them and ran the Baja 1000s with one. The Raptor is based on the F150, as we all know. All they have to do is install them and sell them. They are not stupid enough to think no one will by them. Economy is definetly what is selling right now, not HP. But there are still enough of us who would buy one, even if it only gets 15 mpg. My 2000 4wd only gets about 17 mpg right now (the way I drive it, my wife does a little better). I am willing to pay more for gas to get the power, and I know I'm not the only one. Maybe a minority, but there are still enough of us to justify making them. I actually think it would help sales.
The only thing I can think of is maybe it won't get the mileage they need to keep the govt happy, and the gas guzzler tax could be enough to kill it. Or maybe they'll read this thread and just do it!

The Ecoboost is just over the horizon, no gasser speaks green more than direct injection. 2010 is a great time to offer the 6.2L, everyone's happy. Then again, if the Ecoboost produces the HP / MPG's that have been discussed here, the 6.2L will be obsolete.

While I understand the choice not to spread it out across the line to maintain some exclusivity, I can't help but feel that with all the money sunk into development of this engine, that they wouldn't try and recoup some of that coin spent in designing it.
Though, I'd be willing to bet Ford had originally planned a more widespread use of this engine prior to the latest fuel SNAFU.
