Shuttle To Land At Edwards Today

Looks like Florida is out.

First opportunity is at around 1:25 this afternoon. You guys up in the desert ever go out to see this?

All we can do is hear it down here in the basin.

I have seen it land here at Edwards twice now, and depending on the approach angle they choose, it can get extremely loud and shaky, I'll see about taking the kiddos out to the ramp again for the show.

I'd ride out there to see it, but I don't want to have to deal with holiday traffic coming home. Don't know if you can really see all that well from the public viewing area anyway.

Was a nice landing today, very clear, and it rumbled my house as it passed by. I live on base and I had such a close view of it from my back yard. Wish i could have found my camera quicker so i could have taken some shots. If you guys get a chance to get out to the base next time, you should take advantage of it, you can get right up there and watch it come in from many of the view points. Its really a cool sight. I'll see if any of my buddies got pics of it.

I thought about running out there to see, but the thought of holiday traffic turned me off to the idea. The news broadcast I heard said the public viewing place was off of 58 coming in towards Boron. Is that really the closest you can get?

If you come in from the main gate there is an aircraft museum circle right before you enter the base, and you could have had a good view from there, it would have passed right over head. The viewing area off of the 58 has a great view as well of where the shuttle lands. It is at the north entrance of the base.

We were hanging christmas lights at the time the sonic boom hit. it scared the living crap out of my boy, he almost fell off the roof. I hit the floor laughing so hard at my boy. You should have seen the look in his eyes, priceless.

I know that we shouldn't laugh at some kid almost falling off the roof because of the shuttle, but I can't help it.
