2.3 fairmont

ok, weve got a 2.3 from a 78 fairmont in our skidloader and need to put a timing chain on it, but not sure where the notches on the cam and crank are supposed to be, anyone with some help would be greatly appreciated..

Squaremont! There is a pointer on the cam pulley, triangle shaped, and you rotate it to line up with a pointer mounted on the front of the block. The crankshaft key would be at 12:00 for TDC. The distributor pulley - rotate to put the rotor pointing at #1. Loosen the tensioner (two bolts) and push the idler back against spring tension. Thread the belt over all the pulleys, loosen the tensioner bolts and allow the idler to push against the backside of the belt. Rotate 2X in normal direction, put back at TDC, and check for pointer alignment. If they align, tighten down the tensioner and replace all the other parts... Then set the timing to 10btdc.
