can someone please help me what color red is the motor in my 48 f1 with a 226 straight 6 i know its dark red but what kind exactly ..where can i buy it.... yes i have searched but some people say one thing and another person says another thing and im fed up

That color red is known as "Vermillion."




The best way I can describe it is it looks to be about the same color as blood. Here is a link to a site that has ford colors.

In the first pull down, select Ford Trucks, and the second select 1948.

When the color sample card pops up click on it to enlarge it and Vermillion is in the upper right corner.

Let em know if that's not it and we can look some more.

I would think you could get some in High Temp - probably at an engine rebuilding shop or professional auto paint store. The "RED" they have will probably be close enough. Might be calling it "Ford Red."

I am asking now --and what is the correct color green--I heard for a 53 f100 223 six? I am not going to paint till I fix my static-truck haha and want to prepare.
I believe you can order some engine enamel froma paint store(automotive) and either por 15 engine enamel or plastic coat froma spray-can.
My ppg paint store mixes any color in a spray can and costs about 12.00 a can.

Looks like Walfords color is: Green or Tangerine...I'll do some research and see if I can narrow it down.

Hi Walford,

Wow is there a lot of stuff out there about engine colors. Nothing A to Z (maybe I'll make something), and there seems to be a good bit of "variation." I'll probably be getting a lot of responses from guys who have RED (Vermillion) Flatheads like Mossy. I guess the Vermillion was used on the commercial engines (like there was a difference back them), but according to all the sources, Walford, your engine color is "Krylon Green # 2007."

Here is the picture of the 8BA that was purchased for my truck when we brought it home. (and yes I know it has a car bellhousing and tranny on it)

Walford was asking about an OHV 223-6; there was a thread on here within the last year with pics of the correct Green colors. I forget who had the engine.

Yes, that's the color. But is that a 223 or a 215? Who cares right?

I think it's still that beautiful Forrest Green with the little dash of blue in it.

Looked at yor links, and yes the scratched up engine is the color in question. I LIKE IT! For Walford! For Mossey, you engine should also be green but if it's already red, that's Vermillion. Mine is light Ford Blue(because its a 65 Gallaxy cop car motor)

well i purchased two oil used oil pumps for my motor they were both red and my motor is red so therefore they were all red in 48 not green

 

In my 48 226
I used dupli color spray from pepboys

FORD RED
DE 1605
ENGINE ENAMEL

it is a little brighter not a dk red
it held up good

Yeah baby! That's actually the "orange" and its correct! The green is on the pictures Ross posted and the Vermillion is on my engine post!

My best advice is just paint it one of those three colors - which ever one you like - and if any one gives you any crap tell hm to prove it! (if he can let me know - I'll put it in the engine paint document I'm building). But in all my research and record keeping, Engine colors are somewhat "loose." Kind of like the position of serial numbers on the frame!
