'01 Navigator Suspension burning smell
Bought this 01 less than a year ago. Compressor is loud, I'm assuming I need the rubber b/t the plates...... I comes on about 4-5 times in a 30 mins drive. Not sure if thats normal or not. I started noticing it sinking more and more if it sat. I have another primary vehicle that I drive to and from work. When that car needed brake work I drove the Nav. I started smelling a "hot"smell when I would get out of the truck coming from drivers rear side. Then it got real bad. Then I let it sit again. About a week later I started it back up and within 10 secs of the compressor coming on smoke started coming out of the rear wheel well (drivers side) and it smelled very hot again. I'm scared to take it to Ford or Lincoln. Not only do they want $95 to check it out, but I'm sure they are going to kill me on fixit charges. I can have someone take a look at it and have my hubby attempt to fix but would like to know what we should focus on....
Has anyone heard of this before? What is back there that could cause it to smoke and smell? I've sinced turned the suspension off and the smoke and smell have gone away.
Any help would be appreciated much.
Thanks
Brandy

Who knows.., maybe a solenoid has shorted out. Best thing to do is get under there and see what's there. If you don't see anything that looks like its been hot, while your under there have your hubby start it up for 10 seconds and then see where the smoke is coming from.
