I would like to buy a 2009 expy, but..........

I would like to buy a 2009 Expedition, but the trade in on my 07 EB 4X4 Trailer tow package and all the options with only 10,000 miles is only about $16,000 to $20,000. I know there is a recession in progress, but gee whiz, this ain't much for a like new trade in I still owe $32,000 on.
Talk about owning a Turkey.

Any comments?

do more research next time. Full size suv's aren't noted for resale. It's just a fact of the matter. 20 grand seems ok for what you have. How can you owe 32K on a 2 year old truck? Did you put any money down?

I made a detailed response, but the web site knocked me off, so in short, no down payment, no trade in.

I feel you. The Expedition has horible resale value. For expample. I got a 2008 in May that costs $35 or so. 6 months later and 11,000 miles the blue book is $25K!!

How is that for depreciation.

well, you have to know going into any purchase (even a house at times) it is going to lose at least 15% of it's value as soon as it's used and the value will be higher the sooner you try to resell the unit. If I were you I'd be driving that thing till it dies, remember, you can look at it like this, that truck should go a easy 125K miles w/o a major failure, 125K you'll be paid off and everything will be gravy for the down payment.

Just took delivery of my '09 EL Limited. Turned in an '07 EL Eddie Bauer off lease. I have leased a new Expedition every two years since '97. The '09 had too much incentive to purchase vs. a lease right now, so I purchased the '09. The lease residual on an '09 is clear down to 35% with little incentives.

To purchase, I got $5000 off through X-Plan + $3000 customer cash + $500 RCL cash + $1500 bonus to purchase vs. lease from Ford Credit. So basically $10,000 off MSRP made this vehicle much more affordable to own.

The addition of SYNC and Sirius Travel Link to the Navigation system is a wonderful compliment to this vehicle. In Kansas the weather is constantly changing, being able to view live radar and wind speeds while driving is an awesome feature.

montecarlo is a cornecopia of demeaning advice. No %&$# suvs have bead resale. All he's saying is those #'s are rediculous. The residual on my 08 back in march was 50% on a 36 mo lease. The best I'd seen on expy's since 97. My 03 xlt I traded had 45k mi it was super clean with brand new tires and wheels, 4x4 and all I got was 13.8K. New it was 33. Too many rentals and lease returns for expy's.

I just purchased a new 2008 Limited EL yesterday for $36,700...the sticker on it was $53,000....they had my same truck on the lot used, an '07 with 32K on it for $27,000. Depreciation is the name of the game for big 'utes, better like it when you buy it!

How do you like your 2009 Exp. Limited? I am considering purchasing the EL version. What was the purchase price of your vehicle? Do you have the navigation with Sirus Travel Link? If so, how is it?

It is a Limited EL with all available options except the folding running boards. I paid 36,700 for the truck, plus tax and an extended warranty. The bad news is that today I have a 30K truck. MAYBE. Like I said, better like it if you buy it!

Buy it or lease it, your screwd. Who drives 12K miles a year and keeps the truck in show car condition?

I love my '09 Limited. MSRP was over 54K, final price 42K plus tax. I do have navigation with Sirius Travel Link and SYNC.
I love this system, live radar, wind direction and speed, gas prices updated (almost) every day, current and forecasted weather anywhere in the country, live updated sports scores, traffic accidents, delays and road construction, movie theater shows and times updated daily.

The navigation coupled with SYNC allows you to phone any business on the navs POI list via connected phone. When my phone is coupled via bluetooth, the nav screen displays my personal phonebook, all my incoming and outgoing calls, and all my text messages. I can access anything in my phone by voice through SYNC. SYNC also displays all my music from my IPOD along with albums covers ect, ect. SYNC also has a 10 Gig harddrive to store your own music.

This next gen navigation is 100% better than the nav in my '07. You get "Birds eye" view instead of just overhead view. This allows you to see much further out in front of you and see traffic warnings before you get tied up in them. This system also has 3D view in the bigger cities, viewing buildings and stuff.

With navigation, the backup camera shows on the big screen instead of the rear view mirror. If you have the rear DVD system, you can watch movies on the front screen while in park. (Good reason to stay and watch a movie while the wife shops!) I know this system does a lot more than what I've wrote, but those are some of the highlights
